The announcement for the 2018 10th Region Hall of Fame Inductees was made earlier today. Congrats to all that made it. You are very deserving.

I helped Coach Hinson with nominations this year and glad we have the most of any school at 4. A little shocked John Rice did not make it but this was a very tough class. Also, Clyde Cooper, Danny Cooper’s father will be inducted next year via Veterans Committee. Congratulations to all the well deserving candidates. No one does this better than the 10th Region.

Congrats to all! That will be Code's second induction this year. NKY hall of fame also just announced he will be inducted into their hall as well.

Bios for people inducted into 10th Region Hall of Fame for the class of 2018

Albert Cummins

Brooksville High School

played at Brooksville High School 4 seasons from 1940-1944 where he scored 793 points and won two district championships and one regional championship, also leading the Polar Bears to a 27-1 season. He also earned all-region and all-state honors. He went on to serve in the Navy for two years where he played basketball for Treasure Island in San Francisco. He then played two seasons for Kentucky basketball where he earned two letters, played on the 1947 NIT runner-up team, and played with the 1948 “Fab Five”. He sat out his junior year after transferring to Michigan State where he led the baseball team in batting average his senior year and was named an All-American. He was also 1944 baseball state runner-up. After graduating Michigan State he signed to play minor league baseball with a St. Louis Farm team in Allentown, PA for two seasons (52-53).

Danny Cooper

Bracken County High School

played at Bracken County for 3 seasons from 1962-1965 where he scored 503 points. Danny started his coaching career in the 1980-1981 season after taking over for 10-year Hall of Fame David Hamilton and his perennial tough schedule, where he served as an assistant for many years. His first year they went 3-24 which was the worst season in Bracken County history. However, they improved every year since then, going 8-20, 17-17, 17-13, and 15-8. Every year they improved their winning percentage and qualified for the regional tournament the last four years. He coached 5 years with a record of 60-82. It is this combination of 3 years playing, 5 years coaching, and 30+ years teaching and dedication to Bracken County High School that makes Danny Cooper worthy for the 10th region Hall of Fame.

Garret Jett

Brooksville High School

In Mr. Garret Jett purchased tobacco warehouses which went out of business located by courthouse is in Brooksville. Outside of the warehouse, the Brooksville High School team was practicing outside for their upcoming season. Mr. Jett substituted his warehouse as a gymnasium. The new “gym” had an elevated floor in the middle with driveways on both sides and fence cage around the floor. The 1921-1922 annual was dedicated to Mr. Jett for his fan support and use of the building. Without Jett, there would not have been a place to play. In 1925 Brooksville had won the regional tournament and players said they deserved something more than a “Polar Bear cage” to play in. So, a new gym was built in 1925, and 1926 was the first year of Brooksville being officially called the Polar Bears with the mascot sown on their warmups. Without Mr. Jett there may not have been a Polar Bear basketball team. He is also contributed to the Polar Bears getting their name.

Daniel Fisher

Coached 4 seasons from 1997-2000 with a record of 54-58. He won an All A Region in 1998 and a District championship in 1999. Fisher has has been involved Bracken County schools for over 25 years, currently serving as school Instructional Supervisor, and Director of Pupil Personel. He has also served as middle school baseball, football, and basketball, feeder program coaches for Bracken County. He has served as Athletic Director for 3 years and has made many improvements for our athletic department.

I want to thank coach Aaron Rigdon and St. Patrick High School for working so hard to get Paul King and Jack Condon into the Hall. It was long overdue. It was a honor to look up facts and figures for you guys and play a small part in finally getting these two absolute institutions the recognition they deserve.
