South Oldham vs. North Oldham predictions

Recommended Posts

South Oldham travels to North Oldham on Tuesday, 1/30/18, in the final 29th district seeding game of the season.

The game will decide the #1 seed for the post-season district tournament.

If South wins, the Dragons will finish 3-0 in seeding games and earn the #1 seed, facing Trimble County in the first round, while North Oldham will face Oldham County.

If North wins, the Oldham County Colonels, South Oldham Dragons, and North Oldham Mustangs will finish in a 3-way tie at 2-1. Oldham County will win the tie-breaker, pitting the Colonels against Trimble County in round one and putting North vs. South in the other first round game.

The 29th District will be played at North Oldham HS this year.

South should have Devin Young and Jason King back from the flu; unknown whether Luke Morrison will be back in the lineup.

South has won the last three meetings between the schools.

Players to watch:

North Oldham: Justin Rose. One of the better passers in the region, Rose is a threat to score 30 on any night. The undisputed offensive leader of the Mustangs, Rose is key to their success, even if he's not doing the actual scoring. He needs to be on the floor most of the game; he has had issues with fouls and cannot afford to be in foul trouble Tuesday.

South Oldham - Devin Young will be back from the flu, but how effective will he be? One of - if not the - best shooters in the 8th region, will Young be a tad "off" due to his flu recovery? Young has scored in double figures in every game he's played this year except for one...he is easily one of the most prolific scorers in the region.

"X" factors:

North Oldham - I'm going with Zach Butler and Cole Fischer here. Both will be counted on to battle inside, and these are two players who have been growing by leaps and bounds. If coach Rob Burton can get a combined 15-18 points / 10 rebounds from these two players, North will almost certainly be in this game.

South Oldham - Ben Johnson. This young man has been coming off the bench and giving the Dragons a lift, but none so big as the one he provided Friday against SK, when South was missing three starters. He tallied 21 points and South upset the Pioneers at SK despite the missing starters. That may be all the confidence Johnson needs to explode on Tuesday.
