Why would this be called a "Border Bowl" when we share no border with North Carolina?

It use to be just Kentucky vs Tennessee when it was named the Border Bowl played at University of the Cumberland’s. Now it’s been moved to Pigeon Forge, and they added North Carolina and Georgia. So guess it’s states that border Tennessee now.
