This was the week where none of the top teams in the 10th, given the chance to take the number one ranking by the throat and run with it, were able to do so. By default, our top three remain in their respective spots after the holiday tournament action was over and done with.

1. Campbell County (12-2, 5-0 region). The Camels went 2-1 in the Gateway Holiday Classic at Mount Sterling. Campbell broke open a close game in the third quarter to defeat Anderson County in the first-round game; winning 65-44. Reid Jolly went out with a sprained ankle early in the semifinal against Boyle County and the Camels fell 80-69. Tanner Clos led the Camels in scoring with 22, with Joel Day and Drew Wilson adding 15 and 11. Coach Russell's team bounced back with a 66-42 win over host Montgomery County in the third-place game; with Clos again leading the way with 20 and 12. Mason County and Bishop Brossart are on tap this week, with Jolly initially projected to suit up against Brossart on Friday.

2. Clark County (10-3, 4-1 region). The Cardinals went 2-1 in the City of Middletown Holiday Classic last week; surviving a 60-58 squeaker against North Oldham in the first round. Will Philpot scored on a putback to seal the win. Next was a blowout 61-44 win over Eastern that wasn't as close as the final score; Brennan Canada led the scoring parade with 20 and point guard Jordan Graham tweaked a wrist. The Cards ran into an improving Male squad in the championship game and fell 67-53. Graham was able to play but the Male defense collapsed on Philpot and hit their charity tosses down the stretch. Three games on the Cardinals' schedule this week, starting with a big 40th district tilt at Paris.

3. Pendleton County (10-3, 7-1 region). Coach Belcher's Wildcats hang on to the number 3 spot by a thread after going 1-2 against quality competition in Lexington Catholic's Traditional Bank holiday tourney. A 12-3 run to close the first half (including Dontaie Allen's 2,000th career point) brought the Cats close to Daviess County in the opener, but the Panthers prevailed 81-68 with Allen eventually scoring 30. Pendleton rebounded against Dunbar 56-50 with Allen once again leading the way. The Cats couldn't get untracked and fell to 8th region power Walton-Verona by 10; 58-48 on Friday. Pendleton hosts Robertson County on Tuesday, then travels to South Laurel to face Corbin and double-double machine Andrew Taylor this weekend.

4. Paris (9-3, 4-2 region). The Greyhounds cut down the nets at Bath County's CSI challenge, defeating Menifee County, Estill County in overtime, and East Carter last week. Eric Johnson scored 23 in the opener. Travis Strings (14/11) was the player of the game in the Estill County game that saw Johnson notch his 1,000th career point and a team-high 19. Sorry, no stats for the championship game against East Carter.

5. Scott (8-4, 2-2 region). Scott played three Indiana squads in the Lawrenceburg Holiday Tournament, defeating Triton Central 62-49 and Centerville 66-42 before falling to the host school 67-57 in the final. No stats on the games (sorry), and no team stats on the Scoreboard page. Coach Fromeyer's Eagles face Holmes, Harlan County and South Laurel on the road this week.

6. Montgomery County (5-7, 2-4 region). The Indians hosted their Gateway Holiday Holiday Classic last week, going 1-2 in the process. First was a convincing 60-47 win over the Highlands Bluebirds; then a pair of losses to solid Woodford County (eventual tournament winner) and Campbell County squads. Garrard County and Madison Southern grace the Indians' schedule this week.

7. Mason County (8-5, 3-2 region). The Royals stumbled in a big way at the Ashland Invitational Tournament last week, going 1-2. An 84-72 loss to Boyd County in the first round found four Royals in double figures - Leevi Dunaway with 24, Jeremiah Jones 16, Caleb Boyd 13 and Jayden Steward 12. Dunaway didn't score in a humiliating 67-31 loss to Owensboro Catholic. Steward had 16, with no other Royal tallying more than 6. Dunaway hit a triple at the buzzer to propel Mason County to a 66-64 win over Breathitt County in the 7th-place game. Royals face Campbell County and Holmes this week.

8. Bishop Brossart (7-5, 2-0 region). The Mustangs dispatched St. Henry 50-43 behind Zach Hamberg's 15 and Bryce Donnelly's 11, hitting an uncharacteristic 2-16 from deep in the contest. Next was an easy 58-31 romp over Villa Madonna on the road. Lloyd and Campbell County are on tap this week, followed by a 10th-region All-A opening round game against Calvary Christian.

9. Harrison County (5-8, 2-2 region). The Thorobreds went 2-1 in Bracken County's holiday tournament last week; falling by a bucket to Sayre before defeating Lewis County and Bellevue in the consolation bracket. Quenton Turley and Spencer Free continue to pace Harrison, with Braden Bryant and Thomas Thompson not far behind. Breathitt County and Frederick Douglass on the road this week.

10. Nicholas County (4-5, 2-4 region). Not much separates the Jackets from the #9 Breds at this point. Nicholas also went 2-1 in Bracken's tournament, pasting Bellevue and Calvary Christian before falling by 3 to Sayre. While Pendleton remains the overwhelming favorite in the 38th, the second regional tourney spot is up for grabs. Balanced scoring for the Jackets on the season, with four averaging double figures. Bourbon and Bath at home, followed by a TBA (it will be Robertson County) in the 10th's All-A.

11. Bourbon County (5-7, 2-4 region). Yet another 2-1 showing in Bracken's holiday tournament, sandwiching wins over Lewis County and Calvary around a loss to Sayre. At Nicholas and Clark this week.

12. Robertson County (7-5, 3-0 region). A blowout loss to Estill County, a close loss to Menifee County and an 84-60 thumping of Jackson City at last week's holiday tournament at Bath County. Pendleton away, St. Patrick at home (should be a good one), and Silver Grove in the All-A this week.

13. St. Patrick (5-9, 1-3 region). Losses to Louisville Collegiate and Eminence, with a 2-point win over Brown last week in Louisville. The Saints eagerly welcome former Royal Isaiah Garrison to the roster this week, and also hope to have Ben Swolsky back as well. Robertson County and Augusta (All-A) this week.

14. Augusta (6-6. 2-5 region). Hard to get a bead on the Panthers as they won a pair of games in Ohio last week. At Newport, then a much-anticipated All-A game versus the Saints this wee.

15. Calvary Christian (7-5, 1-5 region). The Cougars got their first win in the 10th last week with a close win over Bracken County before dropping their next two in Bracken's tournament. Silver Grove and Portland Christian this week, followed by a big All-A contest with Brossart.

16. Bracken County (2-11, 0-6 region). Bracken may have found a point guard last week, as Jhace Cummins led the Bears with 23 in their first win since December 1. Their only game this week is against Paris in the All-A.

17. Silver Grove (0-8, 0-1 region). Big Trains remain the 10th's lone team without a win this season, with Calvary and Robertson (All-A) up this week.

Player of the Week:

This week's recipient is Paris senior Eric Johnson, who led the Greyhounds to an undefeated week and scored his 1,000th career point in the process.
