Last week's number two and number three both made strong statements last week and separated themselves from the rest of of the pack, but there was little if any movement at the top when all was said and done. Our number one hasn't lost since the first game of the season and our next two teams have won eleven straight between them. Let's get to it.

1. Campbell County (10-1, 4-0 region). Maybe some of the games have been closer that some think they should have been (in fact, the 5-point win over Newport on December 14 may in retrospect be a better result that originally rated), but Coach Russell's squad has reeled off ten straight after dispatching Holmes (in Campbell's first home game of the season), Holmes and Calvary Christian. The Camels pulled away from Holmes late, with Reid Jolly (17/16) and Tanner Clos (16/10) posting double-doubles and Joel Day adding 10. Campbell systematically took apart upstart Calvary Christian on Wednesday 77-39; then outlasted Beechwood in a foul fest by the score of 96-88. Drew Wilson had 14 points and a dozen dimes for the Camels. Campbell will play three consecutive days in Montgomery County's holiday tournament - Anderson County on Thursday, with the Friday and Saturday games TBA.

2. Clark County (8-2, 4-1 region). GRC arguably had the most impressive week of anyone in the 10th. First was a 56-50 win over previously unbeaten Ashland on the road, with Will Philpot leading the way with 20. The Cardinals followed up with a hard-fought 80-74 decision over Waggener in the Kentucky Bank Challenge, placing four in double figures (Ryan Cooper, Jorday Graham, Chase Taylor and Philpot). According to game updates, the key to the win was keeping turnovers to a minimum. The Cards finished the week with a 63-51 win over Perry Central, with Philpot once again leading the scoring parade with 18. Fortunately, the 13-17 assist to turnover ratio didn't matter. Coach Cook's Cardinals play three games in the City of Middletown Classic this week.

3. Pendleton County (9-1, 7-1 region). The Wildcats ran their winning streak to six last week behind the hot shooting of swingman Dontaie Allen. The versatile junior stuffed the stat sheet with 46 points and 17 boards (and 8 unofficial assists), including 4-6 from behind the arc and 12-15 from the line at Mason County. He wasn't alone, as the Cats went 15-33 as a team from distance. Grant Walsh had 20 to go with 9 boards and Sullivan added 12 as Pendleton pulled way in the final quarter. Allen fell off a bit the next day, only managing 41 points and another 16 rebounds in a 6-point win over undermanned Belfry at Rowan County. According to a reliable source, Allen is just 8 points shy of his 2,000th career point. He and the Wildcats will be showcasing their talents in Lexington Catholic's holiday tournament this week.

4. Scott (6-3, 2-2 region). The Eagles advanced to the championship game of Simon Kenton's tourney last wee. First was a 22-point win over Holy Cross that was close for much of the game. Chad Ohmer with 23, Nelson Perrin with 18 and Michael Meister with 15 for Scott. Next was a double-digit win over host Simon Kenton with Ohmer once again heading the scoring column, this time with 24. The Eagles fell just short in the final, falling to Collins 79-74. Coach Fromeyer's squad has proven to be able to play with anyone in the 10th, falling earler this season to Clark by 2 on a neutral court andby 1 on the road at Mason County. This week finds the Eagles in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

5a. Paris (6-3, 4-2 region). Coach Brooks and the Greyhounds got back to their winning ways last week. After a sluggish start at the Igloo, the Hounds pulled away from Bracken County in the second half and prevailed 68-44. Marcus Ashford led the way with 17 points including 11-12 from the stripe, and Eric Johnson had a quiet but efficient 16/11 double-double. I don't have the stat, but Paris' quickness forced turnover after turnover in this one. The Hounds started slowly against Nicholas County but eventually prevailed 74-55. Jamaun Clark had a breakout game with 23 replacing Strings; with Johnson and Ashford adding 19 and 16. The Greyhounds travel to Bath County this week to play three games in their holiday tournament, starting with Menifee County.

5b. Mason County (7-3, 3-2 region). The Royals started the week with a pair of wins over NKY squads. Tuesday saw senior guard Caleb Boyd score a career-high 20 and Jayden Steward add a triple-double. Mason County erased a 7-point halftime deficit on Thursday by outscoring the Bluebirds of Highlands 72-61; with Leeve Dunaway joining the 1,000-point club as part of his 25/12 effort, with three more Royals in double-figures. The Royals ran out of gas in the final quarter against hot-shooting Pendleton County the next night, however. Dunaway had 22; with all but 2 of those in the first half. Jayden Steward scored 20 and Jeremiah Jones added 13. The Royals travel east to participate in the Ashland Invitational tournament this week in a homecoming of sorts for Coach Buddy Biggs.

7. Montgomery County (4-5, 2-3 region). Coach Daniel's Indians continue to hold the number 7 spot, going 2-1 last week in the Derby Classic at Raceland. First was a loss to Southwestern, followed by wins over Greenup County (69-61) and Sheldon Clark (61-54) in the consolation bracket. Junior guard Myron Ralls paces the squad at 17.5 PPG; and the Indians host their own Gateway Holiday Classic this week.

8. Bishop Brossart (5-5, 2-0 region). The Mustangs would probably prefer to have skipped every other game, as they have gone a statistically unusual W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L 5-5. Last week was no exception to the pattern as they went W-L-W in Bellevue's Swauger Holiday Classic. First was a win over Ryle (playing without their leading scorer) to the tune of 63-41 that had juniors J.D. Schumacher with 19 and Bryan Duffy with 16. Next was a 59-43 defeat at the hands of a solid Newport squad; with Schumacher once again heading the Brossart scoring column, this time with a dozen. The 'stangs bounced back (as they always have so far this season) with a 57-37 cakewalk over tournament host Bellevue in the 3rd-place game. Zach Hamberg and Schumacher were hot behind the arc with 5 and 3 triples respectively. Brossart plays St. Henry and Villa this week.

9. Harrison County (3-7, 2-2 region). The Thoroghbreds started the week off with a bang, manhandling Bourbon County by the (unanticipated by me) score of 83-57. The combo of Spencer Free and Quenton Turley combined for 48 points in this one, with Braden Bryant and Thomas Thompson chipping in 13 and 11. The 'breds went 1-1 in their Huck Turner tourney, toppling Western Hills before falling to LaRue County. Harrison County is off this week before returning to the hardwood on January 2.

10. Nicholas County (2-4, 1-4 region). The Jackets played just one game last week, falling to Paris 74-55 on the road. Nicholas put four in double-figures (Brady Switzer, Spencer Morris, Isaac Fryman and Morgan Planck). Three games at the Bracken County holiday tournament are on the schedule this week.

11. Bourbon County (3-6, 1-4 region). Coach Campbell's Colonels dropped three of four contests last week; falling to Harrison County, Madison Southern and Rowan County, along with a nice win over a game Belfry squad. Bourbon also plays in the Bracken County tourney this week.

12. Robertson County (6-3, 3-0 region). The Scoreboard has Robertson beating Casey County twice on the same day by the same score, so the record may be 5-3. The Devils outlasted Calvary Christian in double overtime, lost to Fairview, and beat Casey County once or twice. Bath County tourney this week.

13. Calvary Christian (6-3, 0-3 region). The Cougars went 2-2 last week, defeating Beth Haven and Dayton at home before the tough loss to Robertson and the blowout at the hands of Campbell County. Another squad that will participate in the Bracken County tourney.

14. St. Patrick (4-7, 1-3 region). Coach Rigdon's Saints get a little bump this week on the strength of a 10-point home win over Augusta and a 2-1 showing at Rose Hill. Off to Louisville Collegiate this week.

15. Augusta (4-6, 2-5 region). Two games this week in Ohiio after falling to St. Patrick and Rockcastle County last week.

16. Bracken County (1-9, 0-5 region). Polar Bears are currently on the wrong end of a 7-game streak. They hung tough with Paris for a half, and get the chance to edge back up the rankings in their JBR/Straightedge tournament this week.

17. Silver Grove (0-7, 0-1 region). Big Trains fell by 11 at home to Heritage Academy, and host Burgin on Friday.

Player of the Week: Pendleton County's Dontaie Allen gets the nod for the second time on the season, averaging 43.5/16 and increasing his season-long scoring average to 31.4 (to go along with 9.9 boards) per game.

Against Waggner we had all 5 starters in double figures. Add Canada to the list. Also in the Perry Central game Will Philpot had 18 points and also 17 rebounds.Which is a heck of a game.

Allen is a great player, but for player of the week I would have to put Will Philpot as 1B.

With all this tourney play we could see some shifting of the teams again. Also some teams are starting to gel and playing better than earlier in the season. Also the competition of the tourney will see some teams really tested, which is a good thing.

Always a good thing to replicate the postseason. One reason I like the All-A.
