SHS Future Posted December 18, 2017 Share Posted December 18, 2017 2017-2018 12th Region Weekly Updates It was a great week of basketball last week as records were broken and some teams are getting off to the best start they have had in a few years. Pulaski County is hanging firm at the top of the rankings but there was still some movement due to district competition getting underway. Take a look at this week's 12th Region rankings. 12th Region Rankings: 1) Pulaski County Maroons (3-1) – The Maroons went undefeated last week but the talk of the town was Stephen Fitzgerald. He set a Pulaski County single game scoring record with 54 points in the Maroons win over Wayne County. The Maroons beat Wayne County 91-67 and Whitley County 79-49. This week the Maroons will be at Fairdale to participate in the prestigious King of the Bluegrass Tournament. 2) Mercer County (6-1) – The Titans picked up a couple of district wins last week as they defeated East Jessamine 65-58 and West Jessamine 89-77. In the win over East Jessamine, Trevon Faulkner scored 24 points while Ty Divine added 14 points. The Titans will be one of two teams representing the 12th Region at Fairdale in the King of the Bluegrass Tournament this week. 3) Boyle County Rebels (3-2) – The Rebels split a pair of games last week as they defeated North Hardin 63-56 but lost on the road to a good Lexington Christian 59-73. Grant Hotchkiss and Bryce Slone both scored 15 points in the win over North Hardin. Bryce also led with 13 points in the loss to Lexington Christian. This week the Rebels will be staying at home as they host Frankfort and Clay County. 4) Somerset Briar Jumpers (6-1) – The Briar Jumpers are off to one of their best starts this decade as they improve to 6-1 after beating Casey County 66-44 and McCreary Central 74-69. Freshman Kade Grundy returns to the lineup after being out with a broken finger from football and scores 11 versus McCreary Central. Kross Gurndy was the star though, putting in 26 points while Trae Harmon added 17 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Kross Grundy also entered the 1000 point club as a Briar Jumper. Somerset will be traveling to McCreary Central this week to play in the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic. 5) West Jessamine Colts (3-1) – The Colts split a pair of games last week as they beat Lincoln county 81-59 but lost to West Jessamine in district play 77-89. In the win over Lincoln County, five players scored in double digits while Jayden Preston had the double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. In the loss to Mercer County, Dalton Bruner scored 34 points and Skyler Cannady added 16 points. This week the Colts will be traveling to Woodford County to participate in the Graviss McDonald’s Woodford County Invitational. 6) Southwestern Warriors (3-2) – The Warriors played two games last week. They started the week losing in a close game on the road at Glasgow 70-71. They finished the week with a win over Elliott County 63-47 in the Buffalo Wild Wing Shootout at Pike County Central. This week the Warriors will travel to Raceland to play Montgomery County in the Derby Classic. 7) McCreary Central Raiders (4-3) – The Raiders started the season strong but have lost 3 of their last 4 games. They beat Garrard County early in the week 78-53, but later lost at Somerset 69-74 and again at Bell County 60-66. In the win over Garrard County, Derrick Paige scored 23 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Hunter Jones added 21 points in the win. The Raiders will be hosting the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic this week. 8) Wayne County Cardinals (2-3) – The Cardinals split a pair of games this past week losing to Pulaski County 67-91 but beating Danville 56-48. In the game versus Pulaski County, Spencer Thomas had 21 points and Aubrey Weaver had 20 points. Wayne County’s star player Jakson Baker has been out of the lineup due to injury since the first game and they have struggled early in the season without him. This week the Cardinals will be traveling to McCreary Central to participate in the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic. 9) Lincoln County Patriots (2-5) – The Patriots lost both games they played this past week. They lost to West Jessamine 59-81 and to Bryan Station 66-77. Freshman Spencer Baird was leading scorer for the Patriots in the loss to West Jessamine putting in 18 points. The Patriots will be traveling to McCreary Central this week to play in the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic. 10) Danville Admirals (1-4) – The Admirals are still trying to get the football players into basketball mode but they did pick up their first win of the season beating Sayre 65-50. They lost earlier in the week to Wayne County 48-56. Watch the Admirals improve over the next few weeks as the team is starting to gel. This week the Admirals will be traveling to Woodford County to play in the Graviss McDonald’s Woodford County Invitational. 11) East Jessamine Jaguars (1-6) – The Jaguars picked up their first win of the season beating Garrard County 75-61. They lost earlier in the week to Mercer County 58-65 in district play. In the loss to Mercer County, Ben Thompson scored 20 points. This week the Jaguars travel to McCreary Central to play in the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic. 12) Garrard County Golden Lions (1-6) – Garrard County lost both games they played last week losing to McCreary Central 53-78 and East Jessamine 61-75. In the loss to McCreary central, Braden Sebastian was one rebound shy of a double-double scoring 13 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. This week Garrard County travels to Henry Clay to play in the Peoples Exchange Bank Holiday Invitational. 13) Rockcastle County Rockets (2-5) – The Rockets split a pair of games this week losing to Anderson County 56-83 but beating district rival Casey County 67-43. The Rockets will be traveling to Rowan County this week to play in the Kentucky Bank Challenge. 14) Casey County Rebels (0-6) – The Rebels are still looking to get a win this season. They lost to two district teams in Somerset 44-66, and Rockcastle County 43-67. This week the rebels host a good Madison Central team before traveling to play at Rowan County in the Kentucky Bank Challenge. 15) Burgin Bulldogs (3-6) – The Bulldogs played three games last week losing two but winning one against Community Christian (Paducah) 67-66. The losses were to Model 31-82 and Christian Fellowship 45-63. The Bulldogs only have one game this week as they travel to play Frederick Fraize. 16) Kentucky School f/t Deaf Colonels (0-9) – The Colonels only played one game this past week and it was a loss to Frankfort Christian 27-48. The Colonels are finished playing for the Christmas break and will return to action January 5, 2018.
