BluegrassPreps.com 11th Region Week 2 Recap and Rankings

Recommended Posts

Another exciting week has come and gone in the 11th Region. As predicted these rankings will most likely change a lot from week to week especially early on in the season. Some big time matchups were unfortunately cancelled due to weather this weekend but still plenty to talk about!

Team of the Week

Madison Central - The Indians only had one game this week but they made it count coming away with a huge 20 point win over 10th Region favorite George Rogers Clark. The Indians look to be clicking on all cylinders early in the season. Congrats to Madison Central on the great start to the season.

Player of the Week

Eric Boone - Bryan Station - What a nice week for Eric "Boss" Boone. Not only did his team pick up 2 huge city wins individually he flirted with triple doubles in both games. Against Henry Clay he had 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists then followed that up with 27 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists against Tates Creek to end the week!! Congrats to Boss and the rest of the Defenders!!

Team Rankings

1. Scott County (4-0) - The Cardinals remain number 1 this week with two nice wins over Lexington Christian and Frederick Douglass. The early week matchup with LCA was a tight one all the way through but the Cards stretched it out in the 4th quarter. Could be an early season preview of the 11th Region Championship. Later in the week Scott County blew past Frederick Douglass in a game that was tight at half but not so much in the second frame. Michael Moreno continues to dominate for Coach Hicks' squad. Cooper Robb and Glenn Covington are rounding into form after a deep run in the football playoffs. Up next for Scott County is an always tough rivalry game with Lexington Catholic before an Australian team visits Georgetown.

2. Madison Central (4-0) - As stated above our team of the week continues to roll. Only one game this past week for the Indians as they looked real impressive in a 20 point win over George Rogers Clark. Isaiah Cozart had an awesome performance on both ends of the floor and Dustin Geralds continues to stuff the stat sheet. Up next for the Indians is a home matchup with Collins and then they head to the Berea Invitational to face Bryan Station and SPIRE Institute out of Ohio.

3. Bryan Station (5-0) - What a week for the Defenders!! First they travel to Henry Clay and pick up a HUGE 30 point district win and then end the week with another huge win on the road over city foe Tates Creek!! As stated above Eric Boone had a monster week for Bryan Station and Terrance Clayton-Murphy and Jalen Burbage continue to be impressive for Coach Johnson's squad. Also, a HUGE shoutout to Kendrick Curry with an absolute filthy dunk against Henry Clay!!! Check it out here Kendrick Curry Monster DUNK for Bryan Station over Andreus Green of Henry Clay | KySports.TV Up next for the Defenders is another district matchup at Frederick Douglass before heading to Lincoln County and then meeting Madison Central in the Berea Invitational.

4. Lexington Catholic (4-1) - The Knights picked up 2 nice wins this week over Corbin and Paul Laurence Dunbar. A really impressive win over Corbin by 29 points!! Was really looking forward to their matchup with Pulaski County this weekend but the weather cancelled that one. Zan Payne continues to be a force for the Knights and Keegan Bailey has been impressive as well. Up next for Catholic is a showdown with Scott County and then a visit from Clay County to end the week.

5. Lexington Christian Academy (2-2) - The Eagles finished the week 1-1 but very easily could've been 2-0. If not for a Kyle Rode injury late in the 3rd quarter at Scott County we could be talking about LCA being much higher this week. I will say I do believe this team is better then number 5 but based on early season results this is where I will put them for now. This week the Eagles face district rival Paul Laurence Dunbar and then host Boyle County to end the week. Shoutout to Carter Hendricksen for a huge week from behind the arc. He continues to light it up!

6. Henry Clay (3-1) - The Blue Devils take a drop this week after a demoralizing loss to Bryan Station. They did bounce back in impressive fashion with a big win on the road at Eastern. Only one game on the schedule this week for the Blue Devils as they travel to Paris this weekend to face a really good Greyhound team.

7. Lafayette (3-1) - The Generals picked up 2 nice wins this week over Paul Laurence Dunbar and Christian Academy of Louisville. Big man Ray Surratt had a nice week for Lafayette including a 25 point performance against Dunbar. This team could have an argument to be higher but for now this is where I will put them. This week the Generals host Tates Creek and Frederick Douglass.

8. Woodford County (5-0) - So far the surprise team of the 11th Region is the Woodford County Yellow Jackets. A big week for Woodford as they picked up 2 district wins and cemented themselves as the early season favorite in the 41st District. Brandon Cromwell and Nick Smith continue to lead the Yellow Jackets early in the season. Up next Woodford County hosts George Rogers Clark and heads to Tates Creek to end the week.

9. Frederick Douglass (2-2) - The Broncos started the week off with a nice win over East Jessamine before falling to Scott County to end the week. The game with Scott County was close at the half but the Broncos couldn't muster much in the second half to stay in the game. As much as I would like to talk about some individuals for Douglass they have failed to post any stats this season. Up next they host Bryan Station before heading to Lafayette to end the week.

10. Frankfort (2-2) - The Panthers make a big jump this week picking up 2 wins and having their full team back and playing after week 1. Frankfort picked up a win over Sayre early in the week and then a district win over Western Hills to end the week. Up next the Panthers travel to Bishop Brossart before heading to Franklin County for a huge district matchup!

11. Franklin County (2-3) - The Flyers had a rough week. First they lost in a big way at Collins and then fell in a close one at Woodford County. Franklin County has showed signs this season of being a good team but just cant seem to finish out some games. This week they head to Nelson County before hosting Frankfort in another huge early season district matchup.

12. Paul Laurence Dunbar (0-4) - The Bulldogs are off to very rough start of the season. They lose two district games this week to Lafayette and Lexington Catholic. While they have shown signs of bouncing back, up 9 at the half against Lafayette, they just cant seem to get it together. Up next Dunbar travels to LCA and Pikeville.

13. Tates Creek (1-3) - The Commodores picked up there first win of the season this weekend squeaking by Belfry but early in the week took two 30 point losses to Lexington Christian and Bryan Station. This young team has a bright future if the pieces come together but right now they are going to take some lumps. Up next Tates Creek heads to Lafayette and hosts Woodford County.

14. Western Hills (3-3) - The Wolverines wanted to make a statement within the district early in the season. They had their opportunity this past week and failed to do so dropping two district games to Woodford County and Frankfort High. They did bounce back with a win over Bracken County. This week the Wolverines travel to Spencer County.

15. Sayre (2-2) - The Spartans went 1-1 this week with a win over Garrard County in overtime and a big loss on the road to Frankfort High. Sayre looks to get back on track this week with games against Louisville Holy Cross and Danville.

16. Madison Southern (1-3) - The Eagles dropped both games this past week to North Laurel and Lincoln County. The rebuilding year continues for Coach Buttry's squad but expect them to continue to improve. Up next the Eagles head to Jackson County.

17. Model (5-0) - The Patriots are off to a nice 5-0 start but haven't played the toughest strength of schedule. This past week they picked up a win over St. Patrick. Up next are games with Burgin, Powell County, and Lee County.

18. Berea (4-1) - A lot like Model the Pirates are off to a nice start but not against the best completion out there. They split this past week losing to Calvary Christian before beating Trimble County. This week the Pirates host Pineville and Menifee County.

Great job:thumb:. I believe that you are going to be doing a lot of shuffling as the year goes on and the 11th region beats itself up. It should be a great year, and whoever comes out should be more than battle tested to step into Rupp.

Central steps out of the region to take on Collins tonight and it's always good to get an out of region measuring stick. Saturday should tell us a lot about the team as we play a very good Bryan Station team, and a prep school out of Ohio. As always by the end of the week we will have a better gauge of where the Indians stand.

Love the HS basketball season.
