  1. 1. Who wins?

Is there anything better, or more automatic, than a Belfry and Central matchup in the playoffs?

Well maybe if it is a championship game instead of a regional finals game.

The Pirates and Yellowjackets meet for the 7th time in 11 years. Central won the first 4 meetings and Belfry has won the last 2.

Who who wins this one?

Central has been next to impossible to knock off at home in the playoffs.

Belfry will have their hands full.

That's an understatement.

Since the change to 6 classes in 2007, Central has only lost 2 playoff games at home. To Wayne Co in 2013 and to Lexington Catholic in 2015.

You will bear witness to the finest band and cheerleaders in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The drumbeat goes on the entire game. Pre-game, they are several blocks away but go so hard it reverberates throughout the city streets. They are frankly impressive, and intimidating. They sell a tremendous shrimp and fish sandwich at the visitor concession. You can see the tip of Louisville skyline from the visitors bleachers. There is a little church on the west side of the stadium just up the road that does parking for $5-$10. I recommend it. Oh, incidentally, the football team there is big, extraordinarily aggressive, and dominated by juniors.

Long trip against a very good team but I believe Belfry puts away Central 49-35 in another classic game.

I don’t think it will be that high scoring. The Jackets D swarms so fast there is little time to react. They have shut out or held to 7 or less all but 3 opponents this year.

The Wellman injury is a big concern for Belfry heading into this one.

When you discuss Wellman's impact you are talking about losing two of your best players. Not only is he an All-State caliber runner, you also lose an elite level LB. Wellman is the leader of this Defense and the guy who makes sure everyone is lined up correctly.

Wellman toasted the Yellowjackets in last year's State Finals for nearly 200 yards, 2 TD's, and added a pair of TFL's for good measure.

Hensley will get the job done at FB, but Wellman is the guy Belfry turns to when they have to have 3 yards and more importantly his role is vital on Defense.

The kid is tough as nails though, and it may require an act of Congress to keep him from getting out there.
