The BluegrassPreps voters chose wisely again this past week.

In 6A Poll threads for ranked teams last week, the voters were a perfect 3 for 3. The #4 ranked St. Xavier Tigers (6-1) beat the #9 Manual Crimsons (3-4) 56-34 at historic Manual Stadium. The Scott County Cardinals (6-2) beat the #10 Douglass Broncos (5-2) in Georgetown 55-21 to stay at #2 in the BGP rankings. The Pleasure Ridge Park Panthers (5-2) beat home standing and the current #7 Butler Bears (5-3) 24-21 and remained at number five. The season total for winners picked in threads with polls is 47 of 52 for 90.0% accuracy for 2017.

The #1 Trinity Shamrocks and the #7 Simon Kenton Pioneers are the only two undefeated in the Commonwealth’s largest football class. These teams continue the march to their probable state quarterfinal matchup. This will take place on November 17 at Trinity’s Marshall Stadium.

The balance of Week 7 results involving current Top Ten 6A teams:

Trinity (8-0) beat Eastern (3-4) 45-0 to remain atop the 6A rankings.

Male (7-1) beat Bryan Station (0-7) 37-6 and maintained their number 3 ranking. #6 Simon Kenton (8-0) travelled to Boone County (1-6) and beat the Rebels 64-0 and moved up one spot. Ryle (5-2) went on the road and defeated Cooper (0-7) 34-14 and stayed at #8.

In games of teams to watch in 6A from Week 7:

Ballard had an open date and stayed just outside the Top Ten.

Campbell County (5-2) beat Conner (4-3) in a road tilt 54-28. Tates Creek (5-2)beatMadison Central (3-4) 17-10 in a game played in Lexington. Central Hardin (4-3) also had an open date and Henry Clay (3-4) defeated Dunbar (0-7) in a home game 48-6 to climb back into consideration.

In Week 8: Trinity plays winless Seneca (0-7) in Marshall Stadium. The Rocks are 15-2 versus the Redhawks in the series. The first game played between these two squads was the 1968 AAA State Championship game. The game ended with Trinity ahead 29-18 before a reported 13,500 at Fairgrounds Stadium. Seneca’s last win in this series was a 34-33 victory in 2003. Trinity has 10 consecutive wins since the 2003 contest. Look for a 35-0 halftime lead for the Shamrocks and a running clock early in the third quarter. A reduction in length of quarters is a distinct possibility. This is a district game and is mandated by the KHSAA.

New #10 Douglass hosts the 2A Hancock County Hornets. Hancock County is 4-3 with losses to 2A Owensboro Catholic 43-8, 6A Daviess County 63-28, and 6A Ohio County 37-8. The Broncos have 5 wins versus 2 losses. The Douglass losses were to 2A Danville 36-0 and Scott County 55-21. Look for the Broncos to put this one away early as the Lexington team has a huge advantage in football talent.

Other games to watch include Ballard (4-3) at Jeffersontown (3-5),

Tates Creek (5-2) at Clark County (5-2), Central Hardin (4-3) at Meade County (5-3), and Henry Clay (3-4) at Bryan Station (0-7).

My predictions for winners of these games include Ballard 28-14, Tates Creek 42-14, and Henry Clay 49-21.

8. Tates Creek and Lafayette (1-0) play October 20 at Tates Creek

Central Hardin is 4-3 having lost 3 of their past 5. Meade County is 4-4 and enters this contest on a three game losing string.

Both squads lost to Christian Academy of Louisville (with Carr at QB). The Green Wave lost to John Hardin 35-28 while the Bruins defeated the Bulldogs 27-12. You have to go with Central Hardin. I predict a 28-14 win for the Bruins.
