Class 1A

Kentucky Country Day’s status as the Class’ 2nd ranked team seemed secure for most of the night against fellow Top 10 Louisville Holy Cross, but the Bearcats had to withstand a furious rally to hold on to the win. Hazard put the finishing touches on a District Championship by defeating Phelps and now go for bragging rights in a massive Eastern Kentucky showdown with Paintsville. This isn’t the only headlining showdown on the docket, surprisingly, Ludlow will put the last undefeated record in Class 1A on the line against top ranked Beechwood. Paris got all they could handle from Nicholas County but were able to survive another day.

1. Beechwood vs. #6 Ludlow

2. Kentucky Country Day at Rock Creek Academy (IN)

3. Hazard at #4 Paintsville

4. Paintsville vs. #3 Hazard

5. Raceland vs. Fairview

6. Ludlow at #1 Beechwood

8. Paris vs. Bishop Brossart

10. Williamsburg vs. Pineville

Class 2A

A pair of elite District face offs highlighted last week’s action and both lived up to the billing. DeSales rode a dominant Defense to a win over rival Christian Academy- Louisville and Danville held off a late Somerset rally to secure another signature win for the top ranked Admirals. Somerset has to rebound quickly as they take on the other undefeated District 7 foe Lexington Christian Academy, but this time away from the Briar Patch. Though the rankings may not be as high, a pair of big time District clashes will be the focus again this week with major playoff implications. In Northern Kentucky, Lloyd and Newport Central Catholic have been on a collision course and will square off. On the other pole of the state, Monroe County and Glasgow will battle for the District’s #1 seed.

1. Danville vs. Middlesboro

2. DeSales at Washington County

3. Lexington Christian Academy vs. #7 Somerset

4. Mayfield vs. Ballard Memorial

5. Newport Central Catholic vs. Lloyd Memorial

9. Glasgow vs. Monroe County

10. Owensboro Catholic at Todd County Central

Class 3A

Belfry has not been asked to play their starters in a 4th Quarter for a while now, so a big game against one of West Virginia’s best big schools had people eagerly watching. The Pirates made a statement that they are still the team to beat by looking ultra-impressive. They now look to lock another District Title up against Lawrence County. Lexington Catholic began a “make or break” two game stretch by winning a shootout against Western Hills. The Knights’ Defense will have to solidify quickly with Boyle County up next. Larue County and Casey County remain the lone undefeated teams and Casey County should have little issue keeping that going. Larue County will have a tougher draw against Elizabethtown. One of the most surprising games featuring a pair of 6-1 teams will feature Bath County and Fleming County in a huge District clash.

1. Belfry vs. Lawrence County

2. Corbin at Bell County

3. Boyle County vs. #7 Lexington Catholic

4. Elizabethtown vs. #10 Larue County

5. Central vs. Bardstown

6. Caldwell County vs. Fort Campbell

7. Lexington Catholic at #3 Boyle County

8. Casey County vs. 2A Betsy Layne (10/14)

9. Western Hills vs. Garrard County

10. Larue County at #4 Elizabethtown

Class 4A

Top-ranked Johnson Central looked human for a quarter or so against Greenup County, then they did what they have done the past two years and put the pedal to the metal. Wayne County won a Top 10 match-up to lock up their District against Knox Central. Logan County, (yes, the 7-0 Logan County) earned one of the biggest wins in recent school history by knocking off Hopkinsville in dramatic fashion. The only foreseeable hurdle standing in the way of a perfect regular season will be Madisonville. The Maroons are playing a good brand of football and will not be easy to beat playing at home. Outside of the Top 10, keep an eye on the Bourbon County versus Scott game. This one has major playoff impact.

1. Johnson Central vs. Rowan County

2. Wayne County at Russell County

3. Collins vs. North Oldham

4. Ashland vs. Greenup County

5. Franklin-Simpson vs. Warren Central

6. Rockcastle County vs. Clay County

7. Western at Valley

8. Knox Central vs. Franklin County

9. Allen County-Scottsville at Warren East

10. Logan County at Madisonville-North Hopkins

Class 5A

Out of State competition was kind to one 5A team and rough for the other. South Warren’s undefeated run finally came to an end against a solid Ravenswood, TN team. Covington Catholic had a little better go of it by crushing Bishop Chatard, IN and making what feels like their seventh straight statement victory. It’s a good time to be a blue Colonel. Christian County is the only other undefeated team now along with Covington Catholic after they took care of business against a much-improved Apollo squad. Doss and Madison Southern each collected big wins. Highlands also played a little “Good News/Bad News”. The Bluebirds have put some early season losses and drama behind them and are starting to show improvement, and the bad news is they now get their rival from Covington.

1. Covington Catholic vs. #8 Highlands

2. Bowling Green vs. Barren County

3. Christian County at Graves County

4. South Warren -- OPEN

5. South Oldham vs. Bullitt Central

6. Madison Southern vs. Woodford County

7. Southwestern at Lincoln County

8. Highlands at #1 Covington Catholic

9. Owensboro at Apollo

10. Doss at Iroquois

Class 6A

Scott County flexed their muscle as the premier program in Central Kentucky and put a hurting on Frederick Douglass. St. Xavier’s Offense gave enough cushion that the Tigers still prevailed over Manual even when their Defense was not having its best night. The Tigers will need to re-gain their focus with a huge showdown against Male this week. Everyone in Northern Kentucky has the Ryle and Simon Kenton game scheduled down the road, before we get there Campbell County would like to take their own shot at ending the Pioneer’s undefeated season and will take it this week. Ryle will need to stay sharp against a Conner team that can be a tough out of their own.

1. Trinity vs. Seneca

2. Scott County at Dunbar

3. Male at #4 St. Xavier

4. St. Xavier vs. #3 Male

5. Pleasure Ridge Park vs. #9 Manual

6. Simon Kenton vs. #12 Campbell County

7. Butler vs. Eastern

8. Ryle vs. Conner (10/14)

9. Manual at #5 Pleasure Ridge Park

10. Douglass vs. 2A Hancock County
