Our Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings are Sponsored by Lake Cumberland Sports

LakeCumberlandSports.com is an internet broadcast and media company out of Somerset, KY founded by four guys who love High School Sports and love broadcasting! When local radio decided to opt out of airing High School Sports; We decided to jump in. In 2016, we worked with an out of state company and did well. Starting in 2017, we decided to do this all by ourselves and we have been in Overdrive ever since.

We have been named the Official Broadcast Partners for both Southwestern and Pulaski County High Schools. We will be doing Football, Basketball (Boys and Girls), as well as Baseball, and Softball in the spring. We may even sneak in some other sports as well.

We can be found at LakeCumberlandSports.com and on Tune-In. All games will be archived throughout the season, so if someone misses a game we will have them covered.

15. Knox Central Panthers (4A, 4-1)- The Panthers re-enter the Top 15 but they got more than they bargained for from Russell County. Clay County should provide much less resistance

14. Montgomery County Indians (5A, 4-1)- Fresh off an off week the Indians will look to keep their red hot start going against South Laurel.

13. Raceland Rams (1A, 4-2)- The Rams took a loss against a solid foe from Ohio and turned some heads by the way they played. They return to Kentucky competition with a red hot Somerset team.

12. Pulaski County Maroons (5A, 2-4)- The Maroons are free falling down the rankings after getting blown off the field in the Second Half against Madison Southern. Lincoln County now looks like more a challenge than we are used to seeing.

11. Ashland Tomcats (4A, 4-2)- The Tomcats saw little resistance from Rowan County and should see even less from Boyd County.

10. Hazard Bulldogs (1A, 3-1)- No Cory Smith, no problem. The Dawgs handled Prestonsburg thanks to their Defense. Now they have a shot to most likely lock up their District against rival Pikeville.

9. Whitley County Colonels (5A, 3-2)- This is about the time Whitley made their move last season. After a hard fought win over East Jessamine the Colonels will face an important District game with North Laurel.

8. Rockcastle County Rockets (4A, 4-1)- The Rock may be hard, but Somerset's Defense was even harder as the Rockets took their first loss. Rockcastle will need to re-focus in a hurry as Wayne County is next in a massive showdown.

7. Paintsville Tigers (1A, 5-1)- The Tigers smoked 3A Lawrence County and have aspirations of getting over the hump and to the State Finals. The Tigers will rest up this week before District play starts.

6. Somerset Briarjumpers (2A, 4-2)- Not only is Somerset EKY's hottest team, they may also have the most Defense playing the best ball. Somerset shut down Rockcastle County and will get another challenge from Raceland.

5. Southwestern Warriors (5A, 3-2)- The good news for Southwestern is their loss two weeks ago to Madison Southern looks much better after what happened to Pulaski County. The bad news is 6A Central Hardin will be a steep test.

4. Wayne County Cardinals (4A, 5-1)- Wayne had little resistance from Clay County and essentially got to rest some starters. They will need all hands on deck against Rockcastle with the eyes of 4A closely watching.

3. Belfry Pirates (3A, 4-1)- The Pirates slight drop has nothing to do with what the Pirates have done. Belfry obliterated Sheldon Clark and should out class Floyd Central.

2. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 4-1)- Corbin moves up with their second signature win as they take down Mayfield on a neutral field. The Hounds now enter District play and open with a much improved McCreary Central squad.

1. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 5-0)- It was business as usual for Johnson Central as they cruise past Boyd County. Expect the Eagles to keep the ball rolling against East Carter.

The Next Five Out (No Particular Order):

Perry Central Commodores (5A, 5-0)- Only two teams remain undefeated in EKY and Perry Central is one of them. The Commodores will have an high scoring shootout with Pike Central.

Fleming County Panthers (3A, 4-1)- Fleming County eyes the driver's seat in the District as they take on Russell with huge playoff implications.

North Laurel Jaguars (5A, 4-2)- The Jags are reeling after dropping two in a row and need to re-focus in a hurry with Whitley County next.

Greenup County Musketeers (4A, 4-2)- Greenup is still in prime position and can assert themselves as one of the best teams in NEKY. First they need to take care of business against Rowan County.

Harlan County Black Bears (5A, 2-4)- The Black Bears needed a big win against North Laurel to stop the bleeding from a brutal schedule, they got that band-aid.

Player of the Week:

QB Eli Sammons, Greenup County

The Sophomore signal caller balled out in Greenup's 43-7 victory over East Carter. Sammons finished 24/35 for a school record 417 yards and 6 TD's.

Game of the Week:

#8 Rockcastle County at #4 Wayne County- The 2016 edition of this match-up was probably the best game of the season in Class 4A with Rockcastle County taking it in the extra frame 41-34. Both teams enter with aspirations of contending for a 4A Title, but in order to best improve their chances a win here and potential home field advantage could go a very long way,

And personally, I think Belfry is the best team on this list at this point.

Right now it is about the fact Corbin has two signature wins and Belfry only has one.

Had Belfry beat Huntington and not blew a 31-10 they may be at #1.. the Redhounds though have an incredibly front loaded schedule and all their best games are played. Belfry still has two chances for statement wins with Cabell Midland and Johnson Central remaining.

Ok, so JC only has what I would consider 1 signature win in Capital. Why not have the Redhounds above JC?

JC's win over South Charleston was a solid win and the Henry Clay win is gaining traction as a solid win but I wouldn't label either as a signature win.

Good article brother, just giving ya a hard time. In all seriousness though, I think you may be bagging your boys a little. IMHO, Belfry is and will be the best team again at seasons end.
