NC State 27 Florida State 21

It's now an officially lost season for Florida State. Blackman was serviceable enough, but leads only one TD drive on the day. As usual, the offensive line completely failed the Noles, which is why they're without their QB in the first place. Trickett has been allowed to stay around for too long as offensive line coach - it's time. It's completely time. They recruit at too high a level - supposedly - to get destroyed on the offensive line so often. It's been an accelerating problem every year since the title.

The lack of games didn't help Florida State either. They really could have used the game experience against UL Monroe for Blackman. That is what it is, nothing you can do about the weather situation and it was of course the right call to cancel that one and move the Miami game. Just unfortunate circumstances.

How long until Jimbo's seat starts to heat up? Being at best a distant #2 in the ACC to Clemson, can't be sitting well with Noles Fans.

If he doesn't fire Trickett, and maybe Kelly as well, not long. I believe the fans are generally sick of the offensive line play. There have been years of excuses. After the title, it was about how many guys had graduated. But entering last year everyone was back on the line, and they were atrocious. Francois spent the entirety of 2016 running for his life. And then this year has begun exactly the same. There's no improvement.

Defensively, those criticisms have been there as well. Kelly is entering his fourth year as DC, and the defense has underperformed a lot, despite having a lot of talent and a lot of talent that has gone on to play in the NFL. It looked like the defense had ironed out after the game against Bama, where the defense put up herculean efforts. But today it was more of the same - beat on big plays, inability to get off the field.

Either these players aren't as good as they appear to be - and if they aren't the NFL is making the same mistake - of these coaches aren't getting what they should out of them. Most people seem to think it's the latter. If Jimbo insists on staying with these guys, then I do think it puts him at risk. But then again, it took them far too long to move on from Bowden. You never know.

I will say that things can shift fast. FSU is distant to Clemson now, but it is an exceedingly short time ago that the shoe was on the other foot. Clemson will probably enjoy their third year at the top of the ACC, which followed a three year run for FSU. Shifts happen. But Clemson appears to be showing no sign of stopping, while FSU definitely slowed down in 2014. FSU has to make corrections now.
