Class 1A

Beechwood was proven to not be immortal as they tasted defeat for their first time against Class 5A's top ranked team, Covington Catholic. The Tigers remain the top team, but now the rest of the small schools have new hopes that they may be able to reel in Beechwood. Kentucky Country Day makes a move up to the #2 spot and will have a chance to make a huge statement against an undefeated Class 2A Lexington Christian Academy. Paintsville made short work of Williamsburg last week and will now keep it local travelling up the Country Music Highway to challenge 3A Lawrence County. Raceland defeated one team from the Buckeye State and will try to go for wins in consecutive weeks against Ohio teams.

Class 2A

No game in the State of Kentucky turned heads more than Christian Academy- Louisville falling to Newport Central Catholic. Danville opened the season as the top ranked team and now regains their seat at the front of the class after surviving a scare of their own against 3A Waggener. DeSales came very close to being the #1 ranked team after a hard fought win over a ranked 5A Fern Creek and will go on the road to take on a solid Lexington Catholic squad. Glasgow and Somerset each have a chance to make statement against ranked foes from Class 4A. The toughest game of the week? Mayfield will take on 3A contender Corbin on a neutral field in Tennessee.

Class 3A

Boyle County is starting to garner some buzz. The Rebels smoked a Top 3 ranked 4A team for the second consecutive week by making short work of Collins, and are a considerable favorite against 6A foe North Hardin. Corbin had an extra week to prepare for their neutral site clash with Mayfield, which is typically a back and forth war that does not appear to change for the and 2017 edition. Any time you can knock off Highlands is a nice win, as is the case for Lexington Catholic, as they look for an even bigger feather in their cap when they host DeSales. Belfry still has a couple marquee showdowns in their future, after putting a running clock on rival Pikeville, and the Pirates will gear down the next couple weeks in District play.

Class 4A

Johnson Central is starting to pull away from the field after both Wayne County and Collins took substantial losses to Boyle County in successive weeks. Undefeated Rockcastle County is starting to garner some buzz as the next potential team in line, as they are the only other undefeated team in the Top 10, but they will need to validate that momentum against a stout Somerset defense. Class 4A does have another surprising undefeated team. Logan County is off to a shocking 5-0 start and should make it six in a row against Hopkins County Central. Ashland will definitely get their shot at Johnson Central in due time, as the Tomcats are slowly climbing back up the rankings and made headway by crushing rival Ironton, Ohio.

2. Wayne County at Clay County

10. Western vs. Breckinridge County

Class 5A

If nothing else, Covington Catholic flexed their muscle as one of the top teams in Northern Kentucky by crushing the top ranked team in Class 1A Beechwood. The Colonels want something more than just regional respect, they have a chance to do the Bluegrass State proud if they can knock off an elite program from Ohio in Desales out of Columbus. South Oldham makes the most noticeable jump this week as they enter the Top 5 following losses by both Fern Creek and Owensboro. Pulaski County also moves a couple spots in the right direction thanks to a loss by North Laurel and County rival Southwestern losing at the hands of Madison Southern. The Maroons cannot laugh at the Warriors' misfortune for long, as Madison Southern is who Pulaski must draw this week.

1. Covington Catholic vs. Columbus Desales (OH)

2. Bowling Green at Greenwood

3. Christian County vs. Marshall County

4. South Warren vs. Barren County

5. South Oldham vs. Oldham County

9. Southwestern -- OPEN

10. North Laurel vs. Harlan County (9/21)

Class 6A

Trinity hosted Champagnat, a team from South Florida that was feeling the after effects from Hurricane Irma. Supporters of the Shamrocks may have felt that Trinity was being a bit too hospitable as they let the smaller school hang around for longer than expected before distancing themselves late for a nice win. The biggest showdown of the week will be a battle to see who is #2 as St. Xavier and Pleasure Ridge Park will face off in a massive Jefferson County match-up. St. Xavier enters after making short work of 3A Central. This is not the only major game in Louisville Metro. Butler is as strong as they have been in quite some time and will have a prime opportunity to make a statement against #5 Male. Scott County lost their second consecutive game to a foe from Cincinnati's toughest division in respectable fashion, as they begin District play which should be a welcomed relief.

1. Trinity at Jeffersontown

2. St. Xavier at #3 Pleasure Ridge Park

3. Pleasure Ridge Park vs. #2 St. Xavier

4. Scott County vs. Bryan Station

5. Male vs. #7 Butler

6. Simon Kenton vs. 5A Highlands

7. Butler at #5 Male

8. Ryle -- OPEN

9. Manual at Seneca

10. Ballard vs. Eastern
