Five teams remain unbeaten n Class 6A. Oho County, Simon Kenton, and Trinity are all 5-0. Pleasure Ridge Park and St. Xavier enter their contest at 4-0.

Only three games involving top ten 6A teams are included in a poll thread this week. These include #2 St. Xavier at #3 Pleasure Ridge Park; #5 Male at #7 Butler; #6 Simon Kenton vs. 5A #11 Highlands.

#1 Trinity at Jeffersontown is not worthy of a poll. #4 Scott County vs. Bryan Station is certain to be a blowout. #9 Manual at Seneca is another mismatch. Ryle and Campbell County are both off this week.

Of the “others to watch”, only Ballard vs. Eastern is expected to be a close game. Douglass will handle Dunbar. Tates Creek is off. Is Ohio County worthy of a poll vs. Henderson County (1-4)? Conner will be the next 6A team to lose to a 2A school in #6 Newport Central Catholic.

6A games of interest last week with polls included Trinity vs. Champagnat Catholic (FL); Scott County at La Salle (OH); Ryle at Campbell County; Simon Kenton vs. Cooper (play Saturday); St. Xavier at Central; Male at Western; and Ballard at Manual. The latter was the only game the BluegrassPreps voters missed. This brings the BGPers choosing the winning team total to 32 out of 36 for a 88.9% in 6A polls.

Trinity has reached some lofty heights in the national polls. The Shamrocks out of state opponents have not experienced as much success as anticipated. Carmel (IN) is currently 3-2 after the 38-14 win over Lawrence North (IN). After losing 45-16 to current #1 Ben Davis (IN), Warren Central (IN) is now 2-3. Moeller (OH) stands at 3-1 after whipping Lafayette 55-6 on Friday night. Male is 4-1 after defeating 4A #10 Western. Trinity handed Champanat their first loss in three games in 2017. I believe Trinity to be the best in the Commonwealth and their annual paramount goal is to win the State Championship. The Rocks may not be a Top 25 team in America.

St. Xavier is on a roll. The Tigers are 4-0 and have outscored their opponents 163-68. Their opponents have stumbled a bit in 2017. Cathedral (IN) now is now 1-4 after their 31-7 loss to Cincinnati St. Xavier. The Bombers will play St. Xavier at the end of the regular season. 5A #2 Bowling Green is now 3-2 after defeating Warren Central (KY) 47-0. 5A Fairdale is even on the season at 2-2. The Bulldogs beat Valley 19-6 on Friday evening. 3A #4 Central is 3-2 after suffering the 42-7 setback at the hands of the Tigers.

The St. Xavier at Pleasure Ridge Park game will be interesting to say the least. The winner will take early control of District 3 with games versus Male and Butler looming in the near future. We will see how the “Holy War” between #1 and #2 plays out on September 29. If both teams are undefeated, the attendance should be among the best ever.

Simon Kenton continues to make their case for a serious move up the BluegrassPreps rankings. The Pioneers have a legitimate shot to go undefeated during the regular season. Following 5A #13 Highlands, the Pioneers will face 1A #1 Beechwood, Boone County, #10 Campbell County and #8 Ryle the remainder of the schedule.
