Our Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings are Sponsored by Lake Cumberland Sports

LakeCumberlandSports.com is an internet broadcast and media company out of Somerset, KY founded by four guys who love High School Sports and love broadcasting! When local radio decided to opt out of airing High School Sports; We decided to jump in. In 2016, we worked with an out of state company and did well. Starting in 2017, we decided to do this all by ourselves and we have been in Overdrive ever since.

We have been named the Official Broadcast Partners for both Southwestern and Pulaski County High Schools. We will be doing Football, Basketball (Boys and Girls), as well as Baseball, and Softball in the spring. We may even sneak in some other sports as well.

We can be found at LakeCumberlandSports.com and on Tune-In. All games will be archived throughout the season, so if someone misses a game we will have them covered.

15. Ashland Tomcats (4A, 1-2)- Tomcats Offense continues to struggle to locate consistency and drop their second decision. Rival Russell offers a chance to right the ship.

14. Harlan County Black Bears (5A, 1-2)- Speaking of Offensive woes, the Black bears have now struggled to find production ever since an season opening blowout of Ashland, although competition has been strong. Knox Central will be a nice test.

13. Greenup County Musketeers (4A, 2-1)- Musketeers could not outlast Fleming County in an entertaining game. No time to for Greenup to lick their wounds as Raceland comes calling.

12. Fleming County Panthers (3A, 2-0)- Fleming may have lost one of their top players, but it didn't keep them from a hard fought win over Greenup County. It is time to hammer the accelerator with three winnable games coming up.

11. Whitley County Colonels (5A, 1-2)- Whitley had no problem scoring points, but their Defense left a lot to be desired as they lose their second game of the season. The Colonels will take this week off.

10. Paintsville Tigers (1A, 2-1)- Paintsville suffered a rare regular season loss stepping up in class to play Hurricane (WV). The Tigers equated themselves well and will not re-direct focus to local rival Pikeville.

9. Rockcastle County Rockets (4A, 2-0)- Rockcastle looked much better in Week 2 and have now planted themselves deep in the Class 4A Rankings. Woodford County will give another game to get their Defense in better shape.

8. Hazard Bulldogs (1A, 2-0)- Hazard overwhelmed 5A Letcher Central but will get a much stiffer test against a Somerset team who is more than capable of the upset.

7. North Laurel Jaguars (5A, 3-0)- North Laurel isn't exactly playing Murderer's Row with their schedule, but they are dominating as you would hope. 5A Grant County should be a no contest.

6. Pulaski County Maroons (5A, 1-2)- Taking a different approach is Pulaski who has instead faced some of the toughest teams they could schedule. The Maroons took one on the chin against a top ranked 3A team, now they get another tough test in one of 2A's best teams Danville.

5. Southwestern Warriors (5A, 3-0)- Moving into the top 5 by way of a tough win over 6A Madison Central is Southwestern. This is their second straight win over a team from the largest class and with Henry Clay up next they look to make it 3 for 3.

4. Wayne County Cardinals (4A, 3-0)- No hangover from a big win for Wayne as they overwhelmed a decent Warren East squad. Boyle County may be their stiffest test to date.

3. Belfry Pirates (3A, 1-1)- Belfry's Offense has already rushed for over 1000 yards in two games and they were no match for 6A Bryan Station. With other top teams in EKY taking on tough teams, Belfry needs a good showing against 2A Newport Central Catholic on the road.

2. Johnson Central (4A, 2-0)- Johnson Central got the win over 6A Henry Clay, but the Blue Devils exposed a few things that Johnson Central will need to correct. South Charleston will make them stretch their legs but should be another "W".

1. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 3-0)- The Redhounds had an opportunity to show off and did just that by crushing Pulaski County in Somerset. Their reward? The Defending 1A Champs Beechwood.

Three Small Schools Who Impressed:

Somerset Briarjumpers (2A, 1-2)- Sure the monsoon helped, but Somerset went toe to toe with Beechwood for three and a half quarters

Floyd Central Jaguars (3A, 3-0)- The kids from South Floyd who joined the new school had won three games in 2 years, now they have won three games to open the season.

Williamsburg Yellowjackets (1A, 2-1)- Williamsburg needed a win and they got it over Leslie County. Frankfort gives them a chance to secure their spot in the 1A pecking order.

Three Small Schools Who Disappointed:

Russell Red Devils (3A, 0-2)- Russell could not get it going across the river and is now 0-2 and needing a win over rival Ashland to avoid three straight losses.

Fairview Eagles (1A, 1-1)- Nicholas County was supposed to take a step back in 1A, but Fairview may not believe that. The favored Eagles took an L and struggled to score.

Knott Central Patriots (3A, 2-1)- This was a game circled on the Pats' schedule as a chance to serve notice against 5A Perry Central. Instead, it was the Patriots who got marked out as Perry Central ran wild 57-19.

Player of the Week:

RB Colby Frazier, Bell County

The Sophomore RB was unstoppable against Pike Central. Frazier rushed 24 times for 231 yards and 6 TD's in the 47-26 win.

Game of the Week:

Somerset Briarjumpers at #8 Hazard Bulldogs- In the battle of the golden helmets, small school bragging rights will be on the line but also some more less tangible factors. Somerset has a chance for a statement win after Beechwood slipped through their fingers. Hazard wants to prove they are once again a true threat for the 1A Title.
