Central KY Power Rankings 8-27-17

Recommended Posts

1.6A Scott County (2-0):

The Cardinals showed why they are one of the teams to beat in 6A after an impressive win over #4 Lafayette who was previously #5 coming into this game.

2.2A LCA (2-0):

The Eagles trend of picking up big wins to open each season has continued with two impressive wins to start the 2017 season, defeating Waggener 40-14 and Pikeville 49-21.

3.2A Danville (2-0):

The Danville Ad’s have kicked off the season with 2 very impressive wins defeating both Frederick Douglass 36-0 and Knox Central 62-28. These next two games will be the test for the Ad’s to see if they really are a contender or pretender in 2A this season.

4.3A Boyle County (2-0):

Boyle County has had no problems with any of their opponents so far this season. The Rebels have put up 95 points in just two games this season, that’s an average of 47.5 points a game and their defense has been solid, allowing just 25 points.

5.6A Lafayette (1-1):

The Generals were on a collision course this weekend with #1 Scott County. Past several games between these two have been nail bitters, edge of the seat watchers, whatever you wanna call it but not this year as the Generals fell to the Cardinals 31-21.

6.4A Mercer County (2-0):

Since Coach Buchanan took over the Titan program, he’s won more games each year he’s been there and he’s took them deeper in the playoffs, could this be the season they, play for perhaps a state title? One thing is for sure, Coach Buchanan is doing great things in Harrodsburg.

7.4A Franklin County (1-1):

Franklin County picked up a solid win over crosstown rival, Western Hills to open the season but was dealt a loss to Mercer County this past weekend.

8.3A Western Hills (1-1):

After dropping a heart breaking loss to crosstown rival, the Western Hills bounced back in a big way crushing Estill County 51-8.

9.3A Garrard County (1-1):

Mercy rule is what Garrard County has seen this season. The Golden Lions ran the clock on Powell County 38-0 to begin the season but was throttled by Madison Southern this past Friday night 48-14, that same team, Garrard County lost by 3 to last season.

10.3A Lexington Catholic (1-1):

After a squeaker of a win over Madison Central, the Knights were embarrassed on their own home field in their own bowl game by Covington Catholic 48-2…That’s a stinger.

Teams on the Climb:

Madison Central (1-1) 6A: The Indians are on the move this week. They fell to Lexington Catholic 34-24 but crushed Woodford County 53-7.

Frankfort (2-0) 1A: The Panthers have started the season off 2-0 for the first time since 2014.

Frederick Douglass (1-1) 6A: After dropping the season opener to Danville 36-0, the Broncos picked up their school’s first win, thrashing Tates Creek 49-22.

Big Droppers:

Montgomery County (1-1) 5A: After thrashing Breathitt County in the season opener, the Indians fell to East Jessamine.

Henry Clay (0-2) 6A: Henry Clay has started the season off 0-2, can they re-group next week when they host Johnson Central next Friday?

Player of the Week:

WanDale Robinson (Western Hills) the RB touched the ball 5 times in the first half against Estill County on Friday, scoring 3 times on those 5 touches.

  • Game of the Week:
#4 Boyle County at #3 Danville. Nothing like a good crosstown rivalry showdown especially in TITLE TOWN. Boyle County makes the short 5 minute trip to Danville on Friday to take on the Admirals. Both teams have started the season with blowout wins over their opponents. Danville blew out Boyle County last season but seasons before the Rebels have owned the Ad’s. Will this be another blowout win for someone? One thing is for sure, this is a must not miss game.
