Recommended Posts

1. 6A Scott County (1-0):

The Cardinals kicked off the 2017 campaign with a convincing win over North Bullitt 56-19. Scott County took a 14-0 lead before even getting the ball, their first two offensive plays they would go up 21-0 with over 7 minutes to go in the first quarter. Scott County had 357 total yards on fewer plays (28) on their way to routing the Eagles.

The schedule gets a little tougher this week as they travel to Lexington to take on a high powered Lafayette offense.

2. 6A Lafayette (1-0):

Lafayette opened the season by running over Bryan Station 28-0. The Generals didn’t have a problem with the Defenders in the route but next week will be a different story as they host 6A #4 Scott County in what should be a thrilling game.

3. 2A Danville (1-0):

A lot like both Scott County and Lafayette, the Admirals didn’t have a problem with their opponent, Frederick Douglass, the new Lexington High School. The AD’s will need to get their offensive struggles under their belt and get them going next week when they face Knox Central at Corbin.

4. 2A Lexington Christian Academy (1-0):

The Eagles offense was stellar in their route of Louisville Waggener as they compiled up 405 total yards of offense. Their defense is a different story, LCA allowed 300 yards of offense to a team that scored just 14 points. LCA’s leading rusher, Jayden Barnhardt had 81 total rush yards. Logan Nieves led the Eagle attack with 169 passing yards on 14/21 passing and 1 TD in the win. LCA makes their way to Eastern Kentucky next week when they take on Pikeville in the Pike County Bowl.

5. 3A Boyle County (1-0):

Boyle County didn’t have a problem with their season opener as they ran past John Hardin 41-6 and their offense was clicking on all cylinders as they compiled 411 total yards of offense on their way to the win. Junior running back, Tanner Crawford and sophomore quarterback, Reed Lanter led the Rebel offense attack with 269 of Boyle County’s 411 yards of offense. Boyle County will host Louisville Waggener next week in the Rebel Bowl. Waggener is coming off a 40-14 loss at Lexington Christian.

6. 3A Lexington Catholic (1-0):

Lexington Catholic doubled up Madison Central in total yardage 508 to 253 but still barley managed to survive the Indians 34-24. The Knights have to play better next week in order to survive another one as Cov Cath comes to town.

7. 4A Mercer County (1-0):

The Titans and Coach Buchanan didn’t have a problem in their home opener as they ran past Harrison County 53-7. The Titans scored 53 points on just 387 yards of total offense. Senior quarterback Gunnar Gillis led the way with 202 yards through the air on 9/13 passing and 3 TD’s. Mercer County will host Franklin County next week.

8. 3A Garrard County (1-0):

The Golden Lions didn’t have a problem winning their first game of the season as they put a running clock on Powell County 38-0. Garrard County only allowed 50 yards of total offense.

9. 6A Tates Creek (1-0):

Much like last season, the Commodores would roll past Henry Clay, by nearly the same score. Tates Creek defeated Henry Clay 44-0 this season they opened up the season by defeating the Blue Devils 48-0. Tates Creek keeps playing this way they will keep moving up the polls.

10. 4A Franklin County (1-0):

The Flyers claimed the state capital cup once again, defeating Western Hills 24-20 in a thrilling game. This is probably considered an upset by a lot of people due to the fact that Western Hills has a good team, a better team that they’ve had in recent years.

11. 3A Western Hills (0-1):

Western Hills had a rough start to the season, dropping their season opener 24-20 to crosstown rival, Franklin County. Hills will look to pick up win #1 next Friday when they host Estill County.

12. 6A Madison Central (0-1):

Out scored in total yardage, 508-243 the Indians still almost pulled out a win against Lexington Catholic. Madison Central travels to Versailles to face Woodford County and one of these two teams will pick up their first win on the season.

13. 1A Frankfort (1-0):

The Panthers crack the top 15 this week after their 35-20 victory over Thomas Nelson.

14. 5A Madison Southern (0-1):

Madison Southern didn’t get the start to the season that they hoped for as they fell to Collins 38-7 in the Roy Kidd Bowl @ Madison Central.

15. 6A Paul Laurence Dunbar (0-0):

Most teams don’t use their “Bye Week” as the season opener but the Bulldogs did and the Bulldogs fans will have to wait another week before they get to see their team in action but it won’t be easy as they face Southwestern.

Big Risers:

Montgomery County: The Indians struggled against Estill County in a scrimmage two weeks ago but didn’t have a problem with Breathitt County in the season opener as they steam rolled past the Bobcats 47-12 in the Rec Bowl.

Big Droppers:

Henry Clay: The Blue Devils were ranked last week but a blow out loss to begin the season sent them packing from the top 15, can they crack the list soon?

Frederick Douglass: The Broncos started the season the same day as a mascot name change and it wasn’t a good one as they were bounced bad by Danville 36-0.

GAME OF THE WEEK:

6A #5 Scott County at 6A #4 Lafayette. These two always play classic games and this season should be no different. The Cardinals and Generals were in the middle of a game before an issued accord causing the Cardinals to forfeit the game to the Generals last season. These two met up again in the playoffs with the Generals coming out on top again 48-47. If you have nothing to do Friday August 25 (this coming Friday) then you need to make your way to Lexington KY, Lafayette high school and see this game, it should be nothing short of another classic.

Last Week’s Game of the Week:

Last week’s game of the week really wasn’t a “game of the week” as Danville cruised past Frederick Douglass with ease, 36-0.

Player of the Week:

Josh Warren (RB Garrard County). Josh ran for 146 yards, 4 TD’s on 29 attempts, in the Golden Lions route of Powell County, 38-0.
