Have You Met Reds' Players Who Were Complete Jackwagons? Let's Hear it .

Recommended Posts

The Pete Rose rape thread got me to thinking about Reds' players you have met over the years. Which of them disappointed you with the way they acted? I know some folks in the Rose thread said he was a complete jerk . My sister met him at a casino and said he seemed pretty cool. Of course, she paid a C-Note for his signature.

I met Bench a few years back. He was okay when I was chatting to him but I wouldn't say he went out of his way to be overly gracious to anyone. I've heard from others that he's quite a butt.

Anyone had any experiences with Reds' players, past or present. I'm particularly interested in hearing about any of the Big Red Machine guys. Also, feel free to comment on any other MLB players you've had some interaction with.

Something tells me that Bill Plummer was a nice guy. I guess I'll never know.

Met Pete Rose in 66/67 at Remke's in Fort Mitchell. Stopped there with my Knothole baseball team. Even though I got my glove signed and wanted to talk to him about why I also wore #14, he had absolutely no interest in us kids that day. Tommy Helms in his playing days wasn't real chummy either.

Tom Browning.. Awesome guy..

Had my son over at a Reds game many moons ago. Went early and shagged a few home run balls. George Foster was there with a body guard and his agent signing autographs for $10.00. Browning was in a booth sitting on the side. My son went up and asked for his autograph, he signed it willingly, chatted with my son and put a huge smile on his face. I walked up separately and told him thanks for doing what he did. He was super nice.

Best - Ron Oester, Danny Jackson, Leo Cardenas, Frank Robinson (he had a bad reputation but was great when I met him - probably because I told him I was an Orioles fan).

Best guys I ever met from other teams - Brooks Robinson and Phil Rizzuto.

Willie Stargell and Cecil Fielder, both extremely nice in person.

Tony Perez. I never met him , according to my Aunt he and his wife were super nice people. She worked in a grocery where they did their weekly shopping.

Forgot Tony. Met him with my son probably 25 or 30 years ago; super nice guy.
