Officer ID'd in Shooting of Woman who Called 911

Three sources with knowledge of the incident said Sunday that two officers in one squad car, responding to the 911 call, pulled into the alley. Damond, in her pajamas, went to the driver’s side door and was talking to the driver. The officer in the passenger seat pulled his gun and shot Damond through the driver’s side door, sources said. No weapon was found at the scene.

“The BCA’s investigation is in its early stages. More information will be available once initial interviews with incident participants and any witnesses are complete. … The officers’ body cameras were not turned on at the time and the squad camera did not capture the incident. Investigators are attempting to determine whether any video of the incident exists.”

This looks really bad.

While I definitely can't say it looks good, I can't yet say it looks bad. There is hardly any information on this case. Sounds like something peaceful went really wrong in a hurry. Cops still in the car and didn't have body cams on yet. Hopefully the dash cam picked up the audio and they can find out what the heck went down. Witnesses never see anything the same way.

The original story makes no sense unless the officer on the passenger side just snapped.

I'm sure it was a news outlet trying to get the jump on the others and had little to go on, other than the "three sources with knowledge".

The Minneapolis police officer said to be the one who fired the shot that killed 40-year-old Justine Damond Saturday night in southwest Minneapolis had three complaints on file, according to city records.

....

(Mohamed) Noor joined the department in March 2015 and is currently assigned to the 5th Precinct in the southwest part of the city.

City records show one complaint against him was dismissed with no disciplinary action being taken. The other two remain open.

...

Noor reportedly shot across his partner who was the driver of the squad at the time. The shooting occurred at 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

It seems that shooting 'across his partner' would seem to imply a high level of recklessness.

Shooting across the car isn't the issue. If the threat was there and that was the necessary action, then so be it.

Doesnt sound good at first glance though. Not sure what she could have done to warrant being shot...

Im interested in hearing the rest of the story.

Agreed on all counts.
