All State Baseball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes tweeted a photo on Kentucky Derby Day that appears to show her riding to Churchill Downs in a state police vehicle traveling nearly 100 miles per hour. The tweet was posted from her verified account @AlisonForKY Saturday afternoon. It says, “On the way to @ChurchillDowns! Thank you to all law enforcement especially Sheriff Aubrey and @kystatepolice for keeping everyone safe!” Shortly after WDRB News first reported on the tweet Tuesday morning, it was removed from the @AlisonForKY account. Jim Schue
Oh good grief. This happens all the time, with important political people getting police escorts and such to various places and events. Grimes just messed up a bit by drawing attention to it since people dissect everything on the Internets anymore.
Science Friction
If a cop wanted to give me a lift to the Derby, I'd probably take it. 50:1 odds that ain't never happening, though.

lawildcat
Just wondering how the KY State Police are keeping people safe at 100 mph. Police escort is fine but you still need to obey the laws like everyone else.

rockmom
Tonight I had to go out to Oxmoor Mall. I'm on the Watterson around 6:30pm. I'm doing 70 and people are passing me and crossing lanes in front of me like I was standing still. All this going East between Breckinridge Ln entrance ramps and I64 exit. No way they were doing less than 90. An hour later, I'm on I65 going south, approaching the Broadway entrance ramp. Two cars are attempting to merge when out of nowhere, a car comes over from the far, far left lane at a high rate of speed, cuts in front of the first car trying to merge, almost causing the car to crash and myself and the other car merging to hit him. He then cuts back over to the left, crossing all the way back over to the far left lanes. He was gone in a flash. Anyone complaining about ALG in a car going 100, and it looks like no one is around, oughta drive in Louisville for a while.

Police escort is fine but you still need to obey the laws like everyone else. Maybe she's that bad a driver that an experienced LEO driving 100 MPH is a safer choice! Should probably show better judgement on following the speed limits but at the end of the day it's not a huge deal. I'm guessing the officer may be spoke to because of media backlash on his speed. Wireman
Secretary Grimes's Office issued a statement on Tuesday saying, "It must be a slow news day when folks are trying to use four-days-old tweets to manufacture a story. The photo was put up by staff to thank law enforcement. The ridiculous speculation surrounding the photo is unwarranted and led to staff removing the tweet. It reduces the selfless and amazing work of all law enforcement to keep people safe over Derby weekend. "
hidinout
Feel like its the norm around here for me to be in the minority but this seems like a big deal to me , NOT that she got a police escort , I dont care at all, but 100 MPH ? Entirely unsafe and unwarranted , and the cop should be in very hot water . And she must be a dimwit as well, tell the driver to slow your butt down to a reasonable 80 . 100 just isnt safe . Could kill a family member of mine or yours with that type speed .
hidinout
And her public statement reeks of " I'm a big deal , leave me alone " which makes me want to gag . Please , Dunderhead Grimes just shut up .
