Senior Colin Lyman's two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning proved to be the difference as the No. 1 Louisville baseball team remained unbeaten on the season with a 5-3 victory over Boston College on Sunday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.

With the Cardinals (19-0, 6-0 ACC) holding a narrow 3-2 advantage and the bases loaded, Lyman sent a 0-2 offering from Donovan Casey back up the middle to score juniors Devin Hairston and Brendan McKay. The victory extended the best the start ever for Louisville and the second longest winning streak in school history behind only the 22 consecutive wins from 1956-58. The Cardinals have also won 35 straight regular season home games and 30 consecutive regular season weekend series at home.

Along with Lyman's pivotal hit, Louisville was paced offensively by Hairston, who finished 2-for-4 with his fifth double of the season, while McKay singled, walked and scored twice. Junior lefthander Rabon Martin worked two innings of perfect relief to earn the victory and move to 3-0 on the season. Junior righty Lincoln Henzman closed the game with 1.2 innings of shutout relief to clinch his fifth save.

Martin, a transfer from Darton State College in his first season with the Cardinals, has surrendered just one earned run in 11.0 innings (0.82 ERA) and six total appearances. Henzman has allowed only three hits while registering 14 strikeouts with just two walks in 11.2 innings of scoreless work out of the bullpen this season.

Boston College (6-11, 1-5 ACC) opened the scoring in Sunday's game plating a run in the top of the second inning on a RBI single through the left side by Brian Dempsey. Louisville evened the score in the bottom of the frame when sophomore Josh Stowers drove junior Drew Ellis home with a RBI sacrifice fly to right field.

The Cardinals gained their first lead of the afternoon in the third inning when a pair of errors by the Eagles allowed Hairston to reach base and score later in the inning. Boston College tied things up at 2-2 in the fourth when a Louisville error extended the inning before Mitch Bigras scored on a RBI sac fly by Anthony Maselli.

Louisville moved back ahead for good in the sixth inning after two more errors by the Eagles extended the inning allowing McKay to score for the 3-2 lead. Lyman's run-scoring single in the seventh inning extended the lead for the Cardinals before Boston College added its final run of the day in the eighth inning on a RBI groundball off the bat of Johnny Adams.

On the bump, Bennett, Martin & Henzman were tough. Bennett's hold on the SUN starting position remains firm as he pitches well and Hoeing and McAvane continue to find their way. Martin is a pleasant surprise as a transfer as he pounds the zone (15 pitches in 2.0IP facing the minimum). Henzman is making people forget about the Burdis in the bullpen - no small feat!

Lyman's key 2 out, 0-2 hit drove in 2 key runs in the 7th. It's a different player each night for the Cards. Their 7 hits were spread among 6 different batters (Hairston had 2).

Defense was unusually suspect for the Cards whose 2 errors led to 2 unearned runs. Ellis made some real nice plays and the E he took was on a tough play. Mann rushed a throw for the other E.

@ UC tomorrow night and @ NC State over the weekend. I'm gonna try to make the game tomorrow and also a couple in Raleigh this weekend. Go Cards!
