This will be theCommodores 6th state tournament appearance since 98/99.Perry Central has only made it to the Elite 8 once (2003/04 losing toWarren Central 55-31, who would go on to win the state title thatseason). The other 4 times the Commodores have made it to the Sweet16, they have been bounced in the first round. 98/99 the Commodoresfell to Pleasure Ridge Park 76-59. 99/00 they fell to Iroquois 69-54,04/05 they fell to Elizabethtown 70-60 and 10/11 they fell to WayneCounty 68-58.

Coach Info:

Perry CountyCentral is coached by Shannon Hoskins, the uncle to former Buckhornstandout, Connor Hoskins. Shannon took over the Commodore program in2013/14, taking over for Coach Kevin Spurlock who was at PerryCentral for 1 season. In 4 years at Perry Central, Coach Hoskins hasbeen to the regional finals 3 times, winning it once (this season),the other two times, you can guess pretty much who it was that wonthe region title those years (14/15, 15/16 – both were blowoutlosses for PCC). Coach Hoskins comes in with a record of; 96-32(overall), 46-10 (region) and 22-4 (district) with 3 districtchampionships and 1 regional championship.

District Tournament Re-Cap:

Perry Centraldidn't have much of a problem in the 54th districttournament. Perry Central opened up the district tournament withLeslie County, who they demolished earlier in the season 67-29 andmuch similar to that game, the Commodores wouldn't have much problemwith this game as they would roll onto victory 60-33, on to thedistrict championship and punching their ticket to the regionaltournament. The Commodores would face off with Buckhorn, the sameteam that defeated them last season in the regional championship gameand what sweet revenge it was for the Dores as they yet again rolledto another victory 74-43.

Regional Tournament Re-Cap:

Winning the 54thdistrict tournament, meant that the Commodores would play a loserfrom one of the other districts and wouldn't you know it, they'd getthe hometown team, Breathitt County in the first round of the 14thregion tournament. If my memory serves me correct, Breathitt Countyhad a double digit lead on the Commodores before Perry Central wouldmake a second half push and take the lead and not look back on theirway to a 66-59 victory. Perry Central would go on to face LetcherCentral in the semi-finals of the regional tournament, although PerryCentral won 57-50, the Commodores had a double digit lead on theCougars before Letcher Central would make a late comeback beforefalling short. Perry Central would go on to face none-other thanKnott County Central in the regional finals, a team that has been athorn in the side of the Commodores and have reigned over the 14thregion for several years. The championship game would be everythingeveryone had said, a barn burner that seen double overtime. SeniorAustin Combs would hit a big 3 with just seconds for Knott Central totie the game and force a second overtime but the second overtimeproved too much for the Patriots has the Commodores would go on andwin the 14th regional crown 57-50.

Sweet 16 Opening Round Game:

Perry Central will meet 15th region winner, Pikeville in the opening round ofthe KHSAA Sweet 16 state tournament at Rupp Arena next Wednesday at1:30 PM. The winner will go on to face the winner of CovingtonScott/Harlan County. Both Harlan County and Perry Central split bothregular season meetings between the two teams, could we see a 3rdgame between these two teams?
