Beechwood's 2017 Schedule - Brilliant or Brutal?

The 2016 State Champion Beechwood Tigers have a lot of returning starters back in 2017 and Coach Rash has decided to hulk up the schedule.

Is the non-district schedule Brilliant on the part of Beechwood or Brutal?

I understand the Tigers non-district games are against:

Covington Holy Cross

Lloyd

Newport Central Catholic

Somerset

Corbin

Covington Catholic

Simon Kenton

So I will ask one last time, is Beechwood's 2017 Schedule Brilliant or Brutal?

For a 1A roster where depth is a matter of math, it is brutal.

This is the answer I was going to have.

1A ball is a war of attrition, and this seems like a rough one.

Even if these games are front-loaded I don't see how getting physically pounded by CCH and SK will make you a better team come playoff time.

Provided that they don't have a bunch of injuries.....brilliant.

It's a Mayfield type schedule and BW will know exactly how they stand come playoff time.

This also speaks a lot about SK. This is why Beechwood has a tradition of winning titles, and SK doesn't.

And yet, somehow, they were able to win it this year without that type schedule.

Glad to see the series with Somerset continuing after the first two seasons.

There are two differences from last year:

Simon Kenton replaces Franklin Co.

Corbin replaces Newport

Snake nailed it, plus if rumor is true of having to move to 2A next cycle this will be a must to prepare. For the moment, I think it will help but it will be less obvious. that said, I suspect it will be eye opening as a experience for the tigers when they move. 2A is a different animal

When your district is that bad and they will not have a meaningful 1a game until the state semifinals, what does it matter how hard their schedule is or isn't?

Brilliant.

Their 1A roster is larger than most 1A to 4A teams so no concern there.

CovCath and SK would appear to be the most difficult games. They have always played CovCath and won some and they have played SK in the past also.

Corbin and Somerset are teams they certainly can and probably will beat next year.

Quick name the last time they lost to Holy Cross or Lloyd and it will not be next year either.

The NCC game, which I assume will close out the season, is just what BW needs after all the District blowouts and before the cushy first and second round playoff games.

And yet, somehow, they were able to win it this year without that type schedule.

Yeah, we know what the somehow was.

Good game for Beechwood/SK if it is the first game of the year. SK scrimmages X so It would be fine playing Beechwood after to work on some things. Beechwood should have a really good team this year. Seeing how Beechwood usually destroys the 2A competition they play I have no problem with this game.
