article 10th Region Recap and Rankings - 2/13/17

One more easy week of the regular season remains. District matchups are set. A bit of movement in the top four, with what looks to be a significant gap between our number 4 and number 5. Here's hoping everybody gets healthy and is able to play at full strength, as injuries and illness still plague several squads.

1. Campbell County (24-4, 10-1 region). A 1-2 week slowed the Camels down, starting with their first home-court loss of the season to Simon Kenton. The reliable duo of Bertsch and Heygi led the Camels with 26 and 16 with Hegyi battling illness. Next came a 31-point romp over Pendleton County where the score was 40-6 at the half. Finally, an 85-85 OT loss to 9th region power Cooper with Bertsch, Hegyi, Clos and Jolly reaching double figures. Two away games at Ryle and Boone complete the regular season.

2. Paris (22-7, 13-1 region). Paris clinched the #1 seed in the 40th with wins over Clark County and Bourbon County last week. Wells, Cunningham and Johnson all scored 20+ in the win over illness-depleted Clark; and Wells added a 26/10 double-double in the Bourbon County win. A trip to Pendleton County finishes the Hounds' regular season.

3. Clark County (19-10, 9-3 region). Romps over Bath County and Bracken County sandwiched the aforementioned loss to Paris as the Cards battled the flu last week. Ryan Cooper poured in 20 against Bath and added 28 more in the win at Brooksville as Clark outscored the Polar Bears 45-15 in the second half. A home game against Henry Clay is on tap this Thursday.

4. Scott (16-10, 6-1 region). Jake Ohmer had 34 in a 12-point loss to Ryle, then drained five threes and 32 total in a 15-point win over 37th district rival Bishop Brossart. Ludlow away and Cooper at home this week as Scott plays out its traditional NKY-heavy schedule.

5. Bracken County (14-13, 9-7 region). Coach Hinson's Polar Bears had a busy week. A 40-point romp over Montgomery County, a thrilling double-OT squeaker at Williamstown, a 51-10 decision at home over Newport before fading in the second half to Clark County. Austin Crawford joined the 3000/1000 club in the first game, had 22 of the Bears' 51 against Newport and got big-time help from Engnes, Brady Jones, Caleb Rigg and Tanner Fisher in the Williamstown game. Bears visit the 38th this week with tilts at Robertson County and Nicholas County.

6. Pendleton County (17-10, 8-4 region). Pendleton defeated Williamstown by 10, took one on the chin without Allen in the lineup, then dispatched Montgomery County by 24 last week. Bourbon County and Paris will test Coach Belcher's Cats this week.

7a. Bourbon County (12-16, 5-7 region). Bourbon lost a pair of tough road games to Madison Southern and Paris last week, with Ameryon Blackburn and Titus Ransom scoring 13 and 20 respectively. Colonels host Woodford County and Pendleton County to prep for a rematch with Paris is the district semis.

7b. Mason County (14-15, 6-6 region). The Royals eased by Harrison County 68-62 in their only action last week, led by Leevi Dunaway's 34 and Jaylen Lofton and Tyrion Fox each adding 11. Bishop Brossart visits The Fieldhouse on Valentine's Day.

9. Bishop Brossart (10-17, 6-5 region). Duffy, Hamberg and Donnelly each reached double figures in a 64-48 win over Bellevue, with Hamberg and Duffy duplicating the feat in the closer-than-expected loss to Scott. The 'stangs travel to Mason County and Lloyd this Tuesday and Wednesday.

10. Nicholas County (14-12, 8-6 region). The Jackets went 2-1 last week, defeating St. Patrick and Menifee County and falling to Western Hills by half a dozen. Busy week ahead with games at Model, home to Bracken County and at Berea.

The rest:

11a. Harrison County (4-23, 2-12). The Breds are mired in a 7-game tailspin and look to right the ship against Franklin County and Montgomery prior to district tournament action.

11b. Montgomery County (6-21, 2-10). The Indians are mired in a 7-game tailspin and look to right the ship against Bryan Station and Harrison County prior to district action.

13. Augusta (11-13, 6-7). Panthers were on the short side of a pair of contests last week, with Lewis County and Walton-Verona on this week's schedule.

14. Robertson County (14-11, 4-6). Devils try to stay above .500 with three games on tap this week - Bracken, Silver Grove and Dayton.

15. Calvary Christian (13-14, 4-6). Cougars riding a modest 2-game win streak. Dayton, then the KCAC tourney this week.

16. St. Patrick (7-21, 1-11). Saints have been competitive with Swolsky's return. Rose Hill and Estill County round out the regular season.

17. Silver Grove (5-19, 0-6). Big win over Covington Latin last week for the Trains. Robertson County and SCPA this week.

According to riherds, Burden for Robertson Co. had 43 points and 13 rebounds vs Model. Pretty good game for the Junior from Mt. Olivet.

I was fortunate enough to watch Ryan Cooper from Clark County put on a shooting clinic in the Polar Bear Palace on Saturday. That was impressive.

Actually Nicholas was 3-1 last week they also beat Augusta in a make up game ... but everything else is correct ...

Cooper, Williams and Taylor can all fill it up. Just depends who is hot that night.

Give my boy PaPa a little slack. Old fingers, old eyes, and a bad spell checker. I'm in the same category. He definitely has the order correct although I'm thinking Campbell & and Paris may be 1 & 1A. Clark is clearly very close though and may be trending up at the right time. Tough test in Henry Clay upcoming. Scott with a very tough game with Cooper. Those 4 and then nobody within miles...........

MeanGene it was good visiting with you Saturday at the BC/GRC game. I agree Cooper can flat shot the ball. Hopefully I'll see you during the tournaments.
