Inside the 16th Region - Week 11

Recommended Posts

1.West Carter (22-5):

The Comets are blasting and destroying everyone in their path. West Carter has won 10 straight and 15 of their last 16 games. Some of the wins include; Elliott County, East Carter, Rowan County, Greenup County just to name a few.

2.Elliott County (19-3):

The Lions are starting to play better ball again after hitting a sluggish spot. The Lions have won 4 straight games after suffering back to back losses for the first time this season. Elliott County travels to Boyd County tomorrow night for a big game against the #3 team in the region, Boyd County.

3.Boyd County (21-5):

After suffering a 68-55 loss at the hands of East Carter back on Feb. 2nd, the Lions have been roaring past opponents. Boyd County has won 4 straight games and in those 4 straight wins, 3 of them were by double digits. I think that loss to East Carter has woke the Lions den up.

4.Rowan County (22-6):

Rowan County is playing the best ball it’s played all season, having won 8 straight and 11 of their last 12 games. All but 2 of those 11 wins have came by double digits with 5 of them being on the road, now when you can go to an opponents house and win by double digits in front of their fans, your doing something right.

5.Greenup County (18-9):

Greenup County dropped 2 out of 3 last week, losing to both Lawrence County 106-103 in a high scoring affair and to Boyd County 91-77 with the lone win coming over Raceland 76-53. The Musketeers seem to be taking a step back from what they had been playing earlier in the season where they had won 6 straight and 11 of their previous 14 games, now they can’t get past two straight wins and are 7-6 in their last 13 games.

6.East Carter (14-13):

The Raiders seen their 3 game win streak snapped on Thursday when they fell to Rowan County 65-49 but the Raiders would bounce back and pick up a big win over Fairview 63-46. The Raiders do have two big games in the coming weeks, @ Boyd County on Thursday and Elliott County in the first round of the 62nd district tournament.

7.Ashland (11-16):

Even though they have lost 3 of their last 5 games, Ashland is playing some decent ball lately. The Tomcats only lost to Rowan County @ Rowan County by 5 57-52 and took 15th region powerhouse Johnson Central to the limit in a 64-61 loss.

8.Russell (12-15):

The Red Devils have won 2 of their last 3 games. Both wins were barn burners with the Devils picking up close wins over South Point OH 63-58 and Lewis County 73-70. Russell however would suffer a horrible defeat at the hands of West Carter 91-69.

9.Bath County (13-15):

The Wildcats can’t seem to get a grip on winning games. They have lost 3 of their last 5 games and can’t put together more than 2 wins.

10.Lewis County (6-20):

The Lions have lost 4 of their last 5 games with the lone win coming over Fleming County 65-50. Can the Lions get something going this week in their favor when they have Augusta, Bath County and Bellevue or will they continue to put up L’s?

11.Fairview (10-13):

The Eagles split both games last week, losing 63-46 to East Carter but defeating Raceland 46-45.

12.Fleming County (6-21):

The Panthers continue to struggle, have now lost 4 straight and 5 of their last 7 games.

13.Morgan County (8-19):

The Cougars skid streak has reached 8 straight games.

14.Raceland (7-20):

The Rams have now lost 6 straight and 8 of their last 10 games.

15.Menifee County (7-19):

The Wildcats have countered their 3 game win streak with a 3 game losing streak.

16.Rose Hill Christian (11-18):

The Royals picked up two wins last week over Piarist School and Riverside Christian, snapping their 12 game losing streak.

I'd probably go with West Carter, Rowan, Boyd and Elliott in the top 4. And Bath has won 4 of 6 on the road lately.

Agreed but I would put Boyd ahead of Rowan. They are AVERAGING 87 points a game in February and have hit 100 3 times in the past 3 weeks. Regardless of your opponent that's strong.

Bath County sits at 13-15 but could win 2 this week to end at 15-15. A win vs Fleming in the district puts them above .500 and region bound. Bart Williams is proof that coaching is everything in high school sports.
