1.Apollo Eagles(14-1) – SAME – Apollo won their only game of the week this week against 9th district rival Owensboro Catholic. That moved them to 4-1 in district play, not counting the win over the Aces in the OIT championship game. Hopewell went for 22/9 and Nathan Boyle knocked down 4 long balls and finished with 16 second half points. Point guard Tabor Shadowen, known more for his ability to run the offense, changed the game with 11 big points. The Eagles take their show on the road Tuesday at Breck County & Saturday at Evansville Central.

2.Hancock County Hornets(17-1) – SAME – Hancock got a big district win against Meade County on Tuesday, 39-34. Brendan Lewis put the Hornets on his back in the 2nd half as he finished with 14. The win ties them with the Waves for the #1 seed in the 11th district tourney, setting up a big matchup between Breck and Meade on 1/27. On Saturday, the Hornets won their 11th straight with an opening round win in the All-A tournament vs Cloverport, 64-29. The win sets up a huge 2nd round game against Owensboro Catholic on Tuesday.

3.Owensboro Red Devils(8-9) – UP 1 – The Devils split a pair of games this week, starting with a big blowout win over previous #3 Muhlenberg County, 74-54. Without the services of all region point guard Jacoby Harris, the Devils got 20 from Deonte Douglas and 15 from Cory Gardner. Sophomore point guard Darrion Wimsatt filled in nicely for Harris, who may be out for an extended period of time with an illness. The Devils fell on the road at Taylor County on Saturday, 66-63. While under .500, the OHS is 5-2 in the region and 4-1 in the 9th district. Owensboro heads to Grayson County on Tuesday before returning home for a big district game against Daviess County.

4.Owensboro Catholic Aces(11-7) – UP 1 – While the Aces dropped a tough district battle at Apollo on Friday, they bounced back with the most impressive win a 3rd region team has seen all season. On Saturday, Catholic knocked off #11 Franklin Simpson, 52-36. Luke Hayden took home player of the game honors for the Aces. Catholic is looking for consistency right now as they are only 1-4 in 9th district play, but have 3 wins against top 20 teams. They will enter All-A play with a big time district showdown with 17-1 Hancock County. The winner advances to Friday’s title game.

5.Daviess County Panthers(12-6) – UP 1 – Take away the loss last Friday to Apollo and the Panthers have won their last 7 outings. They won both games last week. On Tuesday, they knocked off Breck County 71-48. Caden Coomes scored 18 and Boswell chipped in with 16. Friday, Ohio County led DC for 3 quarters but Jay Owen led the Panthers 4th quarter comeback enroute to a 51-47 win. Owen finshed with 15 and Boswell scored 14. DC is at home on Tuesday against Warren East. Friday, they travel to OHS for a big 9th district game.

6.Muhlenberg County Mustangs(10-8) – DOWN 3 – Muhlenberg has really struggled as of late, losing to Russellville and Owensboro by a combined 31 points. They have lost 4 of their last 5 outings. The Stangs have a monster 10th district matchup at Ohio County on Friday. The winner will likely secure the #1 seed in the 3 team district, giving them an automatic berth into the 3rd region tournament. On Saturday, the Stangs travel to Jessamine County to take on Mercer County.

7.Edmonson County Wildcats(8-6) – UP 2 – The Wildcats continued their surge up the rankings with 2 more wins this week. They got a big 12th district home win over Grayson County on Friday, 51-49. On Saturday, they opened All-A action with a 69-48 win over Whitesville Trinity. They move to semi-final action on Tuesday against Mclean County, looking for their 9th win in their last 11 outings.

8.Meade County Greenwave(8-9) – SAME – The Waves continued their slide this week, but they played 2 very tough games this week without their two top scorers. James Baker expects to be out until district play and Chesney Weick has been out battling an ankle injury. Meade led Hancock at half time but eventually gave away to a furious rally from Brendan Lewis. On Friday, Meade played Elizabethtown to within 3, 69-66. Noah Schwartz has started to come on strong in the absence of Weick and Baker, scoring 18 against E-Town. They are taking their lumps now, but you would expect this varsity experience to really help the role players when/if Baker returns for the postseason. It doesn’t get any easier this week, at North Hardin and playing host to Bullitt East.

9.Grayson County(8-9) – UP 1 – The Cougars had an up and down week, as they knocked down a 3 at the buzzer to beat Ohio County on Tuesday. Bailey Logsdon sank the shot with no time remaining to give his team the 58-57 win. Logsdon finished with 11 points, while Conner Shultz led the way with 16. On Friday, Grayson couldn’t hold off district rival Edmonson, falling 51-49 on the road. Grayson hosts OHS on Tuesday before traveling to Butler County on Friday.

10.Ohio County Eagles(7-10) – DOWN 3 – Ohio County has dropped 2 3rd region games this past week by a combined 4 points. The Eagles have to find a way to finish, as they lost 2 big second half leads. On Tuesday, they lost a heart breaker to Grayson County, as Bailey Logsdon hit a trey at the buzzer for the win. On Friday, DC’s 2nd half comeback gave Ohio their 4th loss in 5 games. They travel to Barren County on Tuesday before returning home to host Muhlenberg in a game that could decide the #1 seed in the 10th district.

11.Butler County Bears(6-8) – SAME – The Bears picked up 3 region wins this week. On Monday, they knocked off Cloverport 72-38. Baylee Anderson led the way with 14. On Thursday they got a 70-48 win over Trinity. Anderson again led the way with 20. Rex Henderson chipped in with 17. On Friday, the Bears beat Mclean County 68-52. We’ll see if Butler can carry the momentum into this week, as they travel to Allen County on Tuesday before hosting Grayson County in a 12th district matchup on Friday.

12.Breck County Tigers(3-12) SAME – The Fighting Tigers have dropped their last 6 games, including two this week. They fell to Daviess County on Tuesday and John Hardin on Friday. Breck played the Bulldogs to within 3 but came up just short. Sophomore Kobe Poole scored 16 in defeat. They will have an opportunity to pull a big upset this week, as they host #1 Apollo in their only game.

13.Mclean County Cougars(2-13) – SAME – The Cougars are having a rough time finding their footing this season, losing their only game of the week to Butler County on Friday. They will now set their eyes on defending their All-A crown, as they take on Edmonson County on Tuesday.

14.Cloverport(6-12) –SAME - The Aces dropped all 3 games this past week, losing to Butler, Hopkins Central & Hancock in the 1st round of the All-A. They played Hopkins Central tough on Thursday before falling by 16. Max Dubree had 16/6 in the loss. Cloverport now has the week off.

15.Trinity Raiders(5-11) – SAME – The Raiders dropped all 3 games this week. Losing to Catholic, Butler and Edmonson. The Raiders were within 2 of Catholic at the half and are showing signs of improvement. They travel to Edmonson County on Friday and host Portland Christian on Saturday.

Interesting results around the region tonight. Catholic owned the game against Hancock start to finish, winning by 15. Edmonson also advanced in the All-A to set up an Aces vs Wildcats final.

Feels like Owensboro is starting to emerge and turn the corner as they got a blowout win over Grayson County tonight on the road.

Not sure what happened to Ohio vs Barren County, as they got an 11 point win over them in late December but lost by 18 tonight.

Apollo continued its tear through the region, knocking off Breck County on the road. Boyle knocked down 7 3's and Hopewell went for 30. Apollo continues to look like the clear cut team to beat.
