Griffin Lamb named Player of the Year, a well deserved honor!!!

Congratulations to everyone who was chosen to one of the teams.

[h=2]Player of the year[/h]Griffin Lamb, Covington Catholic:

The senior forward had 34 goals and 16 assists to lead the Colonels to the state championship game after heavy graduation losses from their 2015 state title team. Lamb was first-team all-Northern Kentucky by the region’s coaches and first-team all-state as voted by the state’s coaches.

[h=2]Coach of the year[/h]Jeremy Robertson, Covington Catholic: Despite heavy graduation losses from the 2015 state championship, he directed the Colonels back to the state final, where they lost to a favored Daviess County team on penalty kicks and finished 22-6-2.

[h=2]First team[/h]Griffin Lamb, Covington Catholic: Player of the year.

Michael Vogt, Covington Catholic: The senior defender led the back line that posted 17 shutouts during the year, including seven of nine postseason games. CovCath finished the year with shutouts in 12 of its last 15 contests. He was first-team all-state and all-region, and was also Ninth Region Tournament MVP.

Stephen Schutt, Covington Catholic: The senior was a strong midfield presence for the Colonels, posting three goals and nine assists and aiding in CCH’s staunch defense. He was second-team all-state and first-team all-region.

Adam Snow, Cooper: The senior forward had 23 goals and seven assists for the Jaguars, who were 9-9-3. He was named offensive player of the year by the region coaches and first-team all-state. Committed to Division I Evansville.

Justin Crupper, Ryle: The senior was a defensive leader for the Raiders, who were 19-5-2, 33rd District champions and Ninth Region runner-up. Ryle only allowed 11 goals all year, just three to Ninth Region competition. Crupper was first-team all-state and first-team all-region.

Will Bedel, Ryle: The senior goalkeeper posted 20 shutouts and was named the defensive player of the year by Northern Kentucky coaches. He was second-team all-state.

Colton Dolezal, Highlands: The senior helped lead the Bluebirds, who were 18-3-2, 36th District champions and Ninth Region semifinalists. He had nine goals and 10 assists, and was first-team all-state and all-region.

Drew Rom, Highlands: The junior defender led a Bluebirds team that allowed only 16 goals for the season, four against Ninth Region competition. He was second-team all-state and first-team all-region.

Ian Manahan, St. Henry: The senior midfielder led the Crusaders to an 11-8-2 record, 34th District championship and Ninth Region semifinals. He was second-team all-state and first-team all-region.

Carter Kunstek, St. Henry: He was a first-team all-region defender for the district champion Crusaders and honorable mention all-state.

Bryce O’Hara, Simon Kenton: The senior midfielder led the Pioneers to a 10-11-2 record and the 32nd District title. He was first-team all-NKY by the coaches after posting 11 goals and six assists.

[h=2]Second team[/h]Zach Combs, Holy Cross: The junior goalkeeper was second-team all-NKY for the Indians.

Blake Cornforth, Cooper: The senior was second-team all-region on defense and posted two goals and four assists on offense.

Aiden Jordan, Ryle: The junior was second-team all-region on defense and honorable mention all-state for the Raiders and their staunch defense. He dished out three assists on offense.

Justin Randle, Newport Central Catholic: The senior sweeper led the defense for the Thoroughbreds, who were 14-9 and 36th District runner-up. They were also All “A” regional champions and state semifinalists. Randle was second team all-NKY.

Hunter Cagle, Simon Kenton: The junior was second-team all-NKY on defense by the coaches. He posted two assists.

Vuyo Ndebele, Conner: The senior was second-team all-NKY in the midfield for the young Cougars, posting one goal and three assists.

Grant Perkins, Campbell County: The senior midfielder was second-team all-NKY for the Camels, who were 16-7 and won the 10th Region for the first time in school history. He had five goals and three assists.

Mike DeWald, Pendleton County: The senior was second team all-NKY for the Wildcats, who were 12-7-3 and 38th District champs. He had 29 goals and eight assists.

Logan Muck, Newport Central Catholic: The junior forward was second team all-NKY and honorable mention all-state. He had 15 goals and 12 assists. NCC went to the All “A” state semifinals, losing to state power Louisville Collegiate.

Colton Schneider, Campbell County: The senior forward led the Camels with 38 goals and 10 assists, involved in 48 of the team’s 76 goals. He was second-team all-NKY and tournament MVP in the 10th Region tournament MVP.

DJ Sanders, St. Henry: The senior forward had 24 goals and six assists and was second-team all-NKY.

Well deserved honor for all the players and the CCH players in particular. Vogt, Schutt and Lamb all played roles in the state championship team of 2015 and of course, almost pulled off a repeat. Great careers for all three of them. Jeremy did a fantastic job getting them in position to try for a repeat so again, I think he is deserving of the coach of the year honor.

CCH with a very strong core returning in 2017.

Congrats to all the players and Coach Robertson as well. It has been fun watching these players develop over the years. Hope to get to see at least some play again.
