This isn't the first time the 15th has tried to do something different. Here is what was tried not too long ago.

2010 (at Belfry)

Phelps 55, Pike Co. Central 48

Pike Central (8 - 17) Coach: Johnny Martin--1

Belfry 67, Phelps 56 -

Phelps (13 - 9) Coach: Clay Campbell--7/

Belfry (16 - 9) Coach: Randy Casey--6

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2009 (no 60th District tournament)

There were 15 teams in the region...all lumped into Districts 57-59.

It was decided that the semi-final losers in Districts 57 and 59 would play for the final two spots in the region.

Not sure how they chose those teams, the sequence of games, nor which would advance, but here's what happened:

Feb. 27 at Sheldon Clark Sheldon Clark 67, Magoffin County 60

Feb. 27 at Sheldon Clark Phelps 77, Pike County Central 68

(Pike Central lost…but advanced to play the next night along with Sheldon Clark)

Feb. 28 at Pike Central Pike Co. Central 90, Sheldon Clark 82

(then… Phelps & Pike Central were selected to go to the region)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2008 (at Phelps)

Belfry 91, Piarist School 47 (1 - 24) Coach: Greg Friend--3

Phelps 61, Pike County Central 50 (13-16) Coach: Mark Thompson--1

Phelps 72, Belfry 69 (15-15) Coach: Randy Casey--4

(20 - 7) Coach: Clay Campbell--5/

Only Option four had comments.

 Could lead to additional revenue and excitement.

I'm all in, I would love to see the 15th pilot this option.

The KHSAA needs to do something to generate more interest and revenue. So I can see them going the Super Regional to see how much interest it creates.

I would think they could still play a "pool play" district round that is used to seed the region. Similar to how a lot of these AAU tourneys are done.

Funny how people complain about how many teams make the playoffs in football but then want EVERYONE to not just make the district but now regional tournament in basketball.

I've seen way more people opposed to changing anything in basketball. Myself included. This thread was started at 10pm last night. Wait for them....they're coming.

Let's just let every team in the state play in Rupp Arena and expand the state tournament to a month.

Just make it a 260-team bracket and play ball.

Exactly. If anything blind draw seeding in district tournaments needs to be done away with and and all districts should seed based on regular season results. The basketball postseason is close to perfect in my opinion. Changing things up isn't something that is appealing to me. Leave it as it is. More often than not the same results will happen whether you have 16 teams in the region tournament or not. The journey to making the region tournament is what makes the regular season and district tournaments so exciting. Letting everyone in the region tournament cheapens the experience IMO.
