With the new year came and gone, it’s time for the all important district games that determine the seeding for district tournaments. Let’s take a look back at the 14^th region from week 6.

1.Perry County Central (12-5):

The Commodores hit a snag during the holiday break, had lost 4 of their 7 tournament games. It came a new year and a new chance to start over for the Commodores with the WYMT Classic and a start over is exactly what they did. The Commodores won a thrilling game over Knox Central 54-53 in the opening round game of the WYMT Classic. The Commodores would then blow by Magoffin County by 30, 69-39 and then the Dores would play the Black Bears of Harlan County for the championship, Harlan County came in undefeated, well undefeated they are no more, Perry Central defeated Harlan County 68-52 to hand the Black Bears their first loss on the season.

2.Knott County Central (9-5):

The Patriots started the season off rolling, winning their first 5 straight games and took a 9-3 record into the new year but that’s when the stride hit. The Patriots fell to Magoffn County 68-63 in the opening round of the WYMT Mountain Classic and then fell hard to Knox Central by 17, 74-57 in the consolation bracket of the WYMT Classic. Those 2 losses send the losing streak to 3 straight games, not only that but the Patriots have now lost 4 of their last 5 games. This is not where you wanna be, especially with district foe, Letcher Central awaiting this coming Tuesday.

3.Cordia (4-5):

Despite being 4-5, Cordia could easily be 7-2. The Lions have lost 3 very close games that could have went either way including losing a heart breaking buzzer beater in the opening round of the WYMT Classic to Harlan County 58-57. Cordia had a 57-55 lead with just a second or two left when Harlan County drained a 3 from the other side of the court to win the game. The Lions, however would defeat Hazard 49-34 in the consolation game of the tournament. The Lions will participate in the 14^th Region All “A” Classic. Can they repeat as champs or will their be a new 14^th Region All “A” Champ?

4.Letcher County Central (9-5):

Letcher Central’s only game of the week was cancelled due to weather conditions. The Cougars have two big district games this week; Tuesday @ Knott Central and Friday at home against June Buchanan.

5.Powell County (11-4):

Much like a lot of teams, Powell County’s game last week had to be cancelled due to weather conditions. The Pirates will be back in action this week, when they travel to Perry Central on Tuesday, host district foe, Estill County on Friday and play Russell at GRC on Saturday.

6.Estill County (9-4):

Estill County’s lone game this week against Jackson County was cancelled due to weather conditions. Engineers will be at home Tuesday hosting Garrard County. Travel to Powell County on Friday for a big district showdown.

7.Leslie County (9-3):

The Eagles continue to play good ball. The Eagles picked up a win in their lone game of the week, defeating Owsley County 64-49 on the road. With the win, the Eagles have now won 5 of their last 7 games. Will the Eagles continue playing well or will the Hazard Bulldogs give them another L?

8.Hazard (7-7):

The Dawgs continue to struggle, having dropped 3 straight games pushing their record from 7-4 to 7-7. This time last season, Hazard was 10-2, a big drop off in a year’s difference. Can Hazard get back on track this week or will the slide continue to grow bigger?

9.Breathitt County (9-7):

The Bobcats started off the new year in a good way, picking up 2 big wins, defeating Lee County 108-61 and then going on the road and defeating Morgan County 64-59. Those two wins snap Breathitt County’s losing streak at 3 games. Although they have only won 3 of their last 8 games, Breathitt County is sure off to the right start as we head down the other side of the basketball season.

10.Buckhorn (9-7):

After heading into the Pre-Christmas tourney at Butler County, the Wildcats were 2-7, since then, the Wildcats have ran off 7 straight wins. Their latest victim, Jackson City, 86-63 in Coach Corey Hoskins return to Buckhorn. Can the Wildcats keep up this good work this week in the 14^th Region All “A” Classic?

11.Wolfe County (7-7):

After a slow start to the season, things seem to be changing for the Wolves, having won 3 straight and 5 of their last 6 games.

12.Jackson City (5-10):

Jackson City continues to struggle, having lost 3 straight and 4 of their last 6 games.

13.June Buchanan (1-10):

The Crusaders finally got their first win on the season, defeating Rose Hill Christian 55-54.

14.Lee County (4-10):

The Bobcats are starting to get things turned around, having won 3 of their last 5 games after starting the season off 1-8.

15.Owsley County (2-12):

The Owls defeated Piarist School 73-33 last week to snap their 6 game losing skid. Wanna hear something weird/strange? Both Owsley County wins have came after 6 straight losses. Pattern maybe?

16.Jenkins (0-9):

The Cavaliers continue to struggle, trying to find that 1^st win.

17.Riverside Christian (1-13):

After their 59-41 win over Piarist School, the Rams have dropped 7 straight.
