These young men play off of each other very well. Extremely unselfish team

 

Agree why our assists per game is so high. Many nights you will see 5 players in double figures. A really fun team to watch.

 

Haven't seen them play has style changed much? Did the former assistants stay?

We are much quicker this year.No assistants didn't stay, all new staff.

Cardinals Defeat Fayette County (GA), 66-56

 

 

For the third time this season, the Cardinals ended a two-game losing skid. This time, the Cardinals defeated a talented team from the Atlanta Metropolitan area, Fayette County (GA). Their 6’8″ forward, Noah Gurley, is committed to playing basketball at Furman next year. Gurley was the game’s leading scorer with 22 points; however, the Cardinals limited all of the Tiger’s other players to a combined 34 points in winning, 66-56.

 

The Cards turned up the heat in the beginning of the third quarter. GRC went on a run of 13-4 by midway through the third quarter to lead, 47 to 32. However, the Tigers made some adjustments. Fayette County made a run of 7 to 2 to end the third quarter – trailing by only 10 at 49 to 39. Will Philpot had 5 points in the third quarter. Ryan Cooper and Jordan Graham had 4 points each.

The Tigers opened the fourth quarter with 4 unanswered points to make the score, 49 to 43, with 5:41 remaining. However, the Cardinals would win the game at the charity stripe. GRC made only one basket in the final quarter as PJ Williams hit a trey at the 5:15 mark to squelch the Tigers attempt at a comeback. The Cardinals were 14 of 18 (78%) for free throws in the final quarter – assisted by two Tiger technical fouls. The Tigers would not reduce the deficit beyond 8 points with under 1 minute to play. The Cardinals proved victorious, 66 to 56. Chase Taylor had 6 points in the quarter. Ryan Cooper had 5 points. PJ Williams had 4 points.

Will Philpot had 17 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.

Ryan Cooper had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Chase Taylor had 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Jordan Graham had 10 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

PJ Williams had 6 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists.

Jehdon Jenkins had 4 points and 7 rebounds.

JJ Johnson had 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Houston Goodman had 1 rebound.

The Varsity Cardinals (8-6, 1-0) host 40th District rival, Paris, on Tuesday, January 3rd at Letcher Norton Gym at 7:30PM as a part of a triple-header. The Freshmen begin action at 5PM. JV plays at 6PM.
