12th Region Christmas Addition

 

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to everyone on BluegrassPreps!! I hope that Red Ryder BB Gun you asked for was under the tree this morning. Christmas is the season that friends and families get together to spend time with one another and money on each other. Some of us also spend hours on BGP’s talking high school basketball. Well, sit back, let that Christmas diner digest, and read through this week’s 12th Region Rankings and Review.

 

 

 

12th Region Rankings:

 

 

 

1 Southwestern (10-0) – Although the Warriors have not played against any ranked teams in the state of Kentucky, they are undefeated and playing great basketball. They have moved into the top 20 state rankings in the BGP poll and sit at #19. This past week they only played one game and it was against crosstown rival Somerset. The Warriors squeaked out a narrow victory in the last seconds of the game to prevail 81-77. Peyton Gover was unstoppable as he chipped in 43 points on 64% shooting from the field in the victory. Peyton Cundiff added 16 points for the Warriors. This week the Warriors host Jeffersontown in the first game of the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic.

 

 

2 Pulaski County (8-3) – This past week the Maroons went 2-1 playing in the Central Bank Classic. They beat Franklin County 73-64 and Oakland, TN 63-51 but lost to #12 Lexington Christian 73-89. Steven Fitzgerald returned to the lineup after missing three games to score 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds versus Franklin County. Although they dropped to second in the 12th Region this week, Pulaski will have the opportunity to retake the top spot in the 12th region rankings as they will be cohosting the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic with Southwestern and Somerset.

 

 

 

3 Mercer County (8-3) - The Titans are rolling into Christmas with a wave of confidence as they were crowned champions of the Farmers National Bank - Clash of the Titans this past week. They Beat Campbellsville 91-62, Boyle County 83-62, and in the championship game they beat Lincoln County 76-60. They will be heading to Campbellsville after Christmas to play in the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic.

 

 

 

4 Lincoln County (7-3) - This past week the Patriots played in the Farmers National Bank-Clash of the Titans where they made it to the championship game before losing to Mercer County 60-76. Along the way they beat Montgomery County 55-41 and Muhlenberg County 73-70. After Christmas the Patriots travel to Montgomery County to play in the Gateway Holiday Classic.

 

 

 

5 West Jessamine (5-5) - The Colts played some tough competition this past week and went 1-3 in the Farmers Bank of Jessamine County Classic. They lost to Ryle 66-68, John Hardin 65-68, and Woodford County 63-69, before beating Frankfort 91-84. The Colts will travel up the road to Lexington Catholic after Christmas to play in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic. They are scheduled to play Cooper first game.

 

 

 

6 McCreary Central (6-2) - The Raiders had a good week last week going 3-1 in the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic. They beat Lynn Camp 51-46, Washington County 74-70, and Whitley County 68-64. Their only loss was to Southern 57-70. McCreary Central travels to Pineville after Christmas to play in the Pine Mountain Classic.

 

 

 

7 Casey County (2-7) - The Rebels played two games last week in the Berea Invitational Tournament. The lost to Clay County 63-75 and Powell County 70-84. Casey County travels to Somerset this coming week to play in the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic. They are scheduled to play Wayne County first game.

 

 

 

8 Rockcastle County (4-5) - Last week the Rockets traveled to Hancock County where they went 2-1 in the Aleris Christmas Tournament. They beat Western 64-44 and Livingston Central 81-61. Their loss was to Holy Cross (Louisville) 72-73. After Christmas the Rockets will travel to Allen County-Scottsville to play in the South Central Bank-Halton Classic.

 

 

 

9 Wayne County (4-5) - After losing their first game in the Arby’s/KFC Holiday Classic to Southern 57-61, the Cardinals reeled off three straight wins. They beat Whitley County 57-41, Lynn Camp 68-48, and Washington County 70-60. Next week the Cardinals will be playing in the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic in Somerset. They will be playing Casey County first game.

 

 

 

10 Boyle County (4-6) - The Rebels played in the Farmers National Bank - Clash of Titans where they went 1-2. They beat Eastern 60-56 before falling to Mercer County 62-83 and Muhlenberg County 55-64. The Rebels travel to Montgomery County to play Mason County in the first game of the Gateway Holiday Classic.

 

 

 

11 Danville (3-6) – The Admirals were the champions of the Elleman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic beating Western Hills 72-45. Jared Southerland scored 26 points in the victory. The Admirals lost to Sayre later in the week 55-69. This week the Admirals will be traveling to South Oldham to play Atherton in the Mitchell F Irvin Classic.

 

 

 

12 Somerset (3-7) – This past week the Briar Jumpers beat Garrard County in the consolation game of the Elleman Contracting Holiday Classic 65-48. The next night Somerset lost in a thriller to crosstown rival Southwestern 77-81. Trae Harmon scored 28 points for the Jumpers in the loss. Somerset will be cohosting the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic this week.

 

 

 

13 East Jessamine (4-9) - The Jaguars cohosted the Farmers Bank of Jessamine County last week where they went 2-2. They lost to Harlan County 47-60 and Woodford County 44-55 before beating Frankfort 74-63 and North Oldham 56-51. The Jaguars will travel to Henry County after Christmas to play in the Henry County Invitational.

 

 

 

14 Garrard County (2-7) – The Golden Lions lost to Somerset 48-65 in the consolation game of the Elleman Contracting Garrard Holiday Classic this past Monday. This week Garrard County is traveling to Leslie County to play in the Hyden Bank Christmas Tournament.

 

 

 

15 Burgin (2-6) – The Bulldogs did not play last week. They resume play December 30th when they host Trinity (Whitesville).

 

 

 

16 Kentucky School f/t Deaf (1-6) – The Colonels did not play last week and are off until January 7, 2017.

Lincoln is a little better than I expected. I like the top 4 and I think Mercer will soon be in the top 2.

 

I'm not qualified to agree completely, without seeing the 2 above them play, but I will say I love the style and pace the Titans are playing wth. Moving the ball the way they do, the pressure defense and balanced scoring are all reasons I believe they will make some noise in the 12 this season!
