Inside the 16th Region - Week 4

1.Boyd County (8-1):

The Lions made the long haul across country to Las Vegas NV to participate in the Jerry Tarkanian Classic @ Bishop Gorman NV. The Lions opened up with Campbell County Wyoming and really didn’t have a problem with Campbell County on their way to a 81-52 victory. The Lions moved on to face Leuzinger CA in a game that the Lion faithful are hoping to soon forget as Leuzinger CA cruised past Boyd County with ease 82-39. Boyd County would re-group and win their next two games in the Tarkanian Classic, defeating Layton Christian UT and San Bernardino CA, to move to 8-1 on the season.

 

2.Elliott County (6-0):

The Lions had the week off and won’t return to action until Tuesday Dec. 27th when they participate in the King of the Smokies in Piegon Forge.

 

3.Greenup County (7-3):

The Musketeers remain at #3 this week after taking 2 out of 3 games in the Derby Classic @ Raceland. Greenup County fell in the opening round game to Johnson Central 88-81 in a thrilling game. The Musketeers would roll past both Russell 91-66 and Fairview 88-75 in their next two games in the Derby Classic.

 

4.West Carter (6-2):

The Comets had the week off as well and won’t return to action until Wednesday when they play in the Stultz Pharmacy Classic @ Greenup County.

 

5.Rowan County (6-3):

The Vikings won their lone game of the week last week, defeating Bath County 89-60. Rowan County shot 13/30 from long range, including 2 players combining for 10/16 from long range. Senior guard Michael Antrobus led the Vikings with 26 points in the win.

 

6.Russell (6-5):

Anderson County ended the Red Devils 3 game win streak on Monday, part of the Derby Classic at Raceland. Russell then would get clobbered by #3 Greenup County 91-66, Russell however would get at least one win in the Derby Classic when they rolled past the host team, Raceland 76-41.

 

7.East Carter (4-6):

East Carter, the Raiders dropped their 2 games last week and have now lost 3 of their last 4 games. The Raiders played Eminence in the Berea Invitational Tournament and lost to the Warriors, 84-79 in OT. East Carter picked up another game @ Estill County. The Raiders were done by 11 at halftime at 30-19 and ended up losing the game 62-54.

 

8.Bath County (5-5):

Bath County woes continue as the Wildcats dropped another game, losing 89-60 to Rowan County. The double digit loss, makes the Wildcats’ 4 double digit loss of the season. The season don’t get any easier for Bath, as they travel to Greenup County this coming week to participate in the Stultz Pharmacy Classic, opening up with Bishop Brossart.

 

9.Morgan County (2-8):

Morgan County ended their 4 game losing skid, defeating Louisville Shawnee 69-60 in the Aleris Christmas tournament @ Hancock County. The Cougars, however, would lose 2 of their 3 games in the tournament, dropping their record to 2-8 on the season.

 

10.Fleming County (3-6):

The Panthers won their lone game of the week, defeating Prestonsburg 73-63. The Panthers have won 3 out of their last 5 games, but the wins have came in a pattern, win, lose, win, lose, win. The Panthers will play, East Ridge, Belfry and Phelps in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic @ Belfry this week.

 

11.Fairview (3-8):

The Eagles snapped their 3 game losing streak, defeating Raceland 64-53 but that would be the lone win the Eagles would get as they would drop their next game, 88-75 to Greenup County in the Derby Classic @ Raceland.

 

12.Ashland (1-7):

The Tomcats have dropped 7 straight since their big 69-55 win over Lewis County to open up the season.

 

13.Rose Hill Christian (9-6):

The Royals won their home tournament this past week, defeating Piarist School, Covington Lation, Whitefield Academy and St. Patrick, the Royals, however are 1-2 against region opponents and 0-2 against district opponents.

 

14.Menifee County (2-7):

The Wildcats losing skid has reached 7 straight games after their 80-37 crushing defeat at the hands of Powell county.

 

15.Lewis County (2-8):

The Lions ended their 5 game skid streak but that would be all she wrote as they would drop their next two games of the week, losing 92-69 to Lawrence County and 75-54 to Anderson County.

 

16.Raceland (2-8):

The Rams woes continue, 7 of their 8 losses have been by double digits.
