Inside the 16th Region - Week 3

1.Boyd County (7-1):

The Lions roared past previously #1 West Carter 91-59 last week, ending the Comets #1 ranking and keeping the Lions undefeated streak going. Boyd County defeated Campbell County Wyoming 81-52 in the Tarkanian Classic @ Bishop Gorman NV. That was just one of 4 games for the Lions. We’ll see how well they performed in one of the biggest tournaments nationally, in next week’s rankings.

 

2.Elliott County (6-0):

Elliott County Lions keep on roaring and roaring loud as they continue their undefeated streak, pushing it to 6-0 after winning the Hi-Tech Signs/Graphix Holiday Classic @ Prestonsburg in convincing fashion. Defeating all 3 of their opponents by 10+. Shelby Valley 71-43, Magoffin County 74-59 and defeating host team, Prestonsburg 65-40. The Lions have won all 6 of their games by 10+ points. That’s getting it done.

 

3.Greenup County (5-3):

 

Greenup County moves up 1 spot this week despite taking 2 out of 3 games last week. The Musketeers seen their 3 game win streak snapped and their second loss of the season handed to them when they fell 73-66 to #1 Boyd County. Greenup County would bonce back and pick up 2 straight wins over Ashland Blazer and East Jessamine.

 

 

4.West Carter (6-2):

West Carter seen their #1 ranking from last week, slip away when they lost two straight games this week, a 91-59 contest to Boyd County and a 75-68 contest to 15th region’s Sheldon Clark. West Carter would bounce back and pick up a 62-60 win over Covington Holy Cross. The Comets will have 11 days off before their next game.

 

5. Rowan County (5-3):

The Vikings have put together a 3 game win streak but still remain #5 for this week. Rowan County took 15th region powerhouse, Johnson Central to the limit before falling 71-69. Rowan County would bounce back and pick up 3 straight wins, defeating Menifee County 70-57, Covington Holy Cross 71-69 in OT and Sheldon Clark 83-78.

 

 

 

6.Russell (5-3):

The Red Devils have put together a 3 game win streak and have won 5 of their last 6 games. This week, however, won’t be easy as the Red Devils are scheduled to take on Anderson County and region foe, Greenup County.

 

7.Bath County (5-4):

The Wildcats are still trying to find their grove, they keep struggling to put together 3+ game win streak. The Wildcats hosted Rowan County this evening before traveling to Greenup County next week to participate in the Stultz Pharmacy Holiday Classic, where they will meet Bishop Brossart in the opening round.

 

8.East Carter (4-4):

The Raiders have put together a nice little streak of games, winning 4 of their last 6. Senior guard, Cameron Sparks continues to led the way for this Raider team, averaging 16 points a game. The Raiders will head to Estill County on Thursday for a game that was just recently picked up.

 

9.Ashland Blazer (1-5):

After their opening game win over Lewis county, the Tomcats has lost 5 straight and this week doesn’t get any easier when they have to travel to Winchester to take on George Rogers Clark, followed by traveling to Ironton OH.

 

10.Morgan County (1-6):

The Cougars are struggling miserbly, after picking up a 48-44 victory over Lewis County, the Cougars have went on another 3 game losing streak as they head into the Aleris Christmas Tournament @ Hancock County.

 

11.Lewis County (1-7):

The Lions woes continue, as they’ve lost 5 straight. 3 of the games have been fairly close, losing 62-55 to Rowan County, Morgan County 48-44 and Greenup County 69-64. Lewis County will look to get back on track this week when they participate in the Derby Classic @ Raceland.

 

12.Fleming County (2-6):

The Panthers finally got some W’s to put in the Win column. The Panthers picked up wins over Menifee County 83-67 and Fairview 73-70.

 

13.Rose Hill Christian (5-6):

One of the surprise teams in the 16th region, the Rose Hill Royals won a total of just 9 games all of last season, their at 5 wins already this season.

 

14.Menifee County (2-5):

The Wildcats started the season off 2-0 but have since went on a 5 game losing streak, can they pick up a win this week and get back on track?

 

15.Fairview (2-6):

The Eagles are one of several teams that continue to struggle with putting together more than 2 wins. Can they start a win streak this week when they participate in the Derby Classic @ Raceland?

 

16.Raceland (1-4):

The Rams finally was able to put a W in the win column when they edged out Dayton, 58-54.
