Week Nine

The District Champions Are Crowned and One Undefeated Remains

District play came to a close and the playoff brackets are mostly set. In the rankings this week the close of district play brought Bourbon and East Jessamine into the top 10. The Colonels beat rival Harrison County 19-12 to win the 4A District 7 Championship. The Jaguars completed a championship run through 4A District 5 by defeating in-county rival West Jessamine 20-16. The Jags lost to 3A Garrard County and Western Hills early in the season and those close losses were keeping them out of the Top 10. But with 4 straight wins in the district and the first ever district title coach Mike Bowlin seems to have his team on track.

Displaced from Top 10 were previously undefeated Nichols County Blue Jackets and the Casey County Rebels. The Blue Jackets lost Bracken County 22 to 21. The Rebels lost to a strong Corbin team 35-7. Both teams have had a great 2016 run and are positioned for runs in the playoffs.

In the Game-of-the-Week Lexington Christian took its undefeated 8-0 record into Danville in the game to determine the champion of 2A District 7. The Eagles and Admirals fought in out with the Eagles coming from behind to go back to Lexington with a 42 to 40 victory and their unblemished season still intact.

Ranking leaders Scott County and Lafayette each won their games to win their districts. Lexington Catholic wins their 5th district title out of the last 6 years. Madison Southern repeats as district champions in 5A. The Eagles won their first district title last season.
