Lawnboy13
NewCath...16-07-19-17---59 Conner.....18-07-14-16---55 NewCath Weyer 20 (4/6 FT's) E. Anderson 15 (7/9 FT's) Moeves 11 Hall 8 (5/6 FT's) Ludwig 3 Neff 2 (2/3 FT's FT's 18/24 75% Conner Scott 13 (3/4 FT's) Padgett 12 (3/4 FT's) Hemmerich 11 (3/4 FT's) Gambrel 5 (1/1 FT's) Cook 5 Connely 5 Garnett 4 FT's 10/13 77% Very entertaining game up on the "hill" last night as NewCath stages a strong 2nd half to hold off the visiting Conner Cougars in the final home game for Ben Weyer, John Ludwig, and Brian & Eric Anderson. Also, with the victory, NewCath secures it 3rd consecutive season without a home loss....they are 25-0 dating back to January 10th, 2013 and a 2pt. setback to the Blue Colonels of CovCath. I was very impressed with Conner's patience and ball movement, and they took really good shots. Breds had a short lived 10-7 lead middle of the 1st, but the Cougars race out to the 2pt. lead after one. 2nd quarter action was some strong defense and many missed shots by both teams, as both squads would score only 7pts. each, with the Breds final 3 coming on an answered prayer from 23 feet by John Ludwig (his only pts. of the game)...he was off balance and double teamed but had enough on it for the connection. NewCath grabs it's 1st lead since it was 10-7, with 4:18 left in the 3rd, courtesy of a Ben Weyer steal and 3/4 court race to the basket.....his 3rd consecutive basket. Cougars would tie it with under 10 seconds remaining in the 3rd, but Brennen Hall hits a 3 from the top of the key at the 3rd quarter horn to give the Breds the lead for good. NewCath was up 9 with 4:00 remaining in the 4th, but the Cougars would not go away and with 59 ticks on the clock, Scott hits 2 FT's to make it 54-53. E. Anderson and K. Padgett trade 2/2 FT's and it's 56-55. E. Anderson is fouled again with :20.1 and makes both, and on the Cougars next possession a triple is way off the mark....E. Anderson is fouled again and goes 1/2 and that's your ballgame.
Lawnboy13
Sorry for the late report, but I had a broken water line flood my basement living room last week , and I had crap load of work to do last night.....and no computer to work with. EasyG
Agree with LB ... very entertaining game. Scott is a pretty tough defensive assignment ... kid can get to the lane. I liked Conner's style of play ... lot's of movement off the ball, attack the lane, and get pretty good looks without having a lot of size. They also handled the press pretty well. Shout out to Padgett ... always enjoy watching smart players get the most out of their abilities. Weyer did some damage posting up and getting to the rim, Breds made a few more plays down the stretch, and buried enough free throws to hang on.
