Remember these rankings will be based on current play and not just the record or one good/bad game. Mayfield and St. Mary's are the movers this week. Mayfield pulled the upset of the year in the region when they beat #3 Graves County. Here are the rankings as of 2/15/16.

1. Paducah Tilghman (23-4)

The Blue Tornadoes have won 12 straight games and continue to move up in the BGP rankings. They defeated crosstown rival McCracken Co this week 79-71 and close out the season with what should be easy wins in Calloway Co and Community Christian. I really only see two teams in Region 1 that could upset Paducah Tilghman, that would be the number 2 and 3 teams in this ranking.

2. Murray (23-5)

Murray has won 4 straight including a big win over a very improved Taylor County in Bowling Green. This would be Murray Signature game and solidifies their ranking in the BGP top 20. They also had a nice win against University Heights and seem to be playing very well right now. They have a very good chance to win Region 1 if they keep it up. They play McCracken Co and Carlisle Co to end the season.

3. Graves County (17-9)

Graves had two nice blowout wins against a good Marshall County team and Ballard Memorial, but then they collapsed against Mayfield and took the biggest upset loss in the region this year. They will have to stay focused and rebound against St. Mary’s, Carlisle Co, and Fulton Co. this week. When playing well, this team has the ability to win Region 1, though it would be a big upset.

4. McCracken County (20-7)

The Mustangs have lost two tough games in an overtime loss to University Heights and a close game to Region 1 powerhouse Paducah Tilghman. While McCracken was the biggest surprise of the region this year, they probably do not have enough to win the region as they would have to upset two of the teams above them in these rankings. While this year has shown anything can happen, it is unlikely.

5. Marshall County (15-12)

The Marshalls recovered well after the losses to Murray and Graves Co. They defeated Calloway Co and St. Mary’s. Marshall has shown glimpses of being a region 1 contender, but hasn’t been able to stay consistent all season. Dj Pigg is the only senior on this team, so I would expect them to be in the mix again next season. They play Mayfield this week before closing the season against BGP no.1 Christian County.

6. Carlisle (20-6)

The Comets have a gawdy record but they do not have a signature win this year. In fact they haven’t beat a region 1 team in the top 5 yet this year, which is why their ranking doesn’t match their record. They have a chance to do that in their last two games of the year versus Graves Co and Murray. They would need to win both of those games to move up in the rankings.

7. Mayfield (11-14)

Mayfield is coming on strong since their loss to Carlisle Co back on Jan 29. They hae won 5 of their last 6 and pulled the upset of the year in region 1 against Graves County. They also upset Ballard Co, both of those game being at home. They have a real chance of winning out if they can pull another upset against Marshall Co again at home.

8. Ballard Memorial (9-15)

Ballard Memorial has now lost 3 of their last 4 games and failed to pass over Carlisle this week with an overtime loss. They also lost to Mayfield while defeating Livingston Co. The outlook has them winning their last 3 games of the year against Fulton City, Fulton Co. and Calloway Co.

9. Hickman County (10-14)

Hickman took a loss to St. Mary’s and McCracken while beating Fulton Co. and CCA. They will have the chance to win there final two games of the season against an out of state Illinois team and Mayfield.

10. Calloway County (7-18)

Calloway has had to endure a humbling season this year after the amazing run they had last year. They took losses from Marshall Co and Madisonville North Hopkins. They close out the year against Paducah Tilghman and then Ballard.

11. Fulton County (7-15)

Play a tough last three games against an improved Mayfield, Ballard Memorial, and Graves County. Seven wins may be all they get this year.

12. St. Mary (12-16)

The Viking have been playing much better basketball and have won 3 of their last 5. They defeated Hickman, Crittenden, and Lyon. They finish the year at Graves and at home against Lyon and McCracken.

13. Fulton City (12-16)

Lost three of their last four and finish the season against Ballard and CCA. They should win that last game before Districts.

14. Christian Fellowship (6-19)

Defeated CCA and lost big to other teams they played. They finish against St Francis and Dawson Springs.

15. Community Christian (1-22)

This team doesn’t quit, but they just do not have the talent to compete with the rest of the region.

7. Mayfield (11-14)

They actually did win out, by beating Graves they won the district title. They lost to Graves in the first meeting but the winner of the second game gets the district crown. Strange rule to me. The Ballard win was not a upset. It takes a while as they play football into December each year and most of the kids play both sports.
