16th Region Rankings 2-14-16

1.Rowan County (16-9):

The Vikings have gotten back on the right track, the winning track. Rowan County has won 4 straight and 5 of their last 6 games, including defeating previously #1 Morgan County 51-49. All 5 of the Vikings past 6 games have been against region opponents; Fleming County (78-57), Bath County (74-47), Morgan County (51-49), Ashland (41-38), East Carter (49-39). The lone loss came @ Lewis County (57-51 OT). The Vikings have 3 games this week as it’s the last week of the regular season; tomorrow (2/15), @ Greeenup County, Friday (2/19) @ Knott County Central, 2/20 @ Cordia

 

 

2.Greenup County (18-9):

The Musketeers have also been hot as of late, they have won 5 straight and 6 of their last 7 games. Greenup County did get revenge on Boyd County last week, defeating the Lions 80-74 in the Lions Den after falling to the Lions 77-62 just several weeks before the second meeting. Greenup County has only two games this week and they are back to back. Monday night they face off against #1 Rowan County and then Tuesday they travel to Flemingsburg to battle the Panthers.

 

 

3.Morgan County (19-7):

The Cougars have the best record in the 16th region at 19-7 but they have taken a minor step back in their last 6 games, splitting it, 3-3. Morgan County fell to Owen County in the All “A” state tournament, fell to Magoffin County and fell to #1 Rowan County while defeating Paintsville, Nicholas County and East Carter. Two of the 3 Cougar losses have came in the past 3 games. The Cougars will look to rebound this week when they travel to Elliott County (Monday) to face a team they have already defeated twice this season, Wednesday @ West Carter and Thursday at home vs. Magoffin County.

 

 

4.Elliott County (15-7):

After hitting a rocky spot during their season, going 1-6 in their previous 7 games, the Lions have won 3 straight as we head into the final week of the regular season. All 3 of those wins have came against region opponents including a win over #5 Boyd County. Elliott County will host Morgan County and Russell on Monday and Tuesday and travel to Fairview on Thursday.

 

 

5.Boyd County (16-12):

The Lions have played 12 games since January 1st and 4 of them have been losses, 14 of those 16 games that the Lions have played in, came against region opponents (11-3), but two of those 3 losses have came back to back, actually those two losses were their two last games. What’s more interesting is that the Lions have split two different 6 game wins streaks. Boyd County will travel to Raceldand and East Carter on Tuesday and Thursday.

 

 

6.West Carter (18-7):

17-4 of their 18-7 record have came against region opponents. The Comets have defeated #1 Rowan County twice, split with #3 Morgan County and split with #4 Elliott County but have fallen to Boyd County once. The Comets will host Morgan County and Ashland on Wednesday and Thursday.

 

 

7.Ashland (15-8):

The Tomcats have been struggling as of late, losing 3 straight and going 3-4 in their last 7 games but the Tomcats are 9-5 since January 1st. Can the Tomcats regain momentum this week as we heads towards the district tournament? Ashland will host Paintsville on Monday, travel to West Carter and Russell Thursday and Friday.

 

 

8.Lewis County (14-11):

Lewis County suffered a bad loss last week when they fell to 4-win Fleming County team 54-51. The Lions had defeated Fleming County 67-54 earlier in the season at the Mason County Tournament. The loss to Fleming County was one of two back to back losses, Lions also were defeated by West Carter 60-43.. The Lions are 3-3 in their last 6 games as we head into the last week of the regular season. Lewis County will host Nicholas County on Monday, Travel to Augusta on Tuesday and host Bath County on Thursday.

 

 

9.Raceland (12-15):

Raceland is struggling bad and have been struggling about all season. Raceland is just 1-3 in their last 4 games but they have only won 5 games since January 1st. Rams have actually only won 1 out of their 6 district games this season. Rams will be at home this week hosting Rose Hill and Boyd County Monday and Tuesday.

 

 

10.Russell (5-22):

Russell is struggling mightly, have lost 9 staright and have only won 3 games since January 1st.

 

 

11.East Carter (9-15):

East Carter is 3-7 in their last 10 games, however 8 of their 9 wins are against region opponents but none of them are against the top 5 teams in the region.

 

 

12.Fairview (9-16):

Fairview has won 2 games since January 1st and are currently on a 2 game losing streak.

 

 

13.Bath County (7-21):

Bath County has won 4 games in the new year, that’s one more win than they had in December, however, none of those wins are against any of the top 5 region teams.

 

 

14.Fleming County (4-21):

The Panthers have won 2 straight, (Lewis County and Russell).

 

 

15.Menifee County (1-22):

Since defeating Rose Hill back on January 29th, the Wildcats have lost 5 straight.

 

 

16.Rose Hill (9-17):

Rose Hill is 9-17 but only 1 of those 9 wins was against a region opponent, Menifee County.
