16th Region Rankings (2-3-16)

1.Morgan County (18-5):

The Cougars are red hot, extremely red hot as the season dwindles down. The Cougars have won 11 of their last 12 games with 4 of those 11 wins coming against region opponents and two of them coming against top 5 team, Elliott County. Morgan County is still getting great production from star guard, Jordan Perry, averaging 29 points a game.

Morgan County defeated Painstville and East Carter to begin the week and will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday when they travel to Nicholas County.

 

2.Boyd County (13-10):

After a rough start to begin the season, Boyd County looks to have gotten back on track, winning 11 of their previous 13 games. Boyd County’s record indicates that they are 13-10, everyone’s probably wondering, how can a team that’s just 3 games above .500 be ranked the 2nd team in the region, well they are 10-2 against region opponents.

The Lions picked up wins over Ashland and Chesapeake OH to begin the week. East Carter and Fairview make the trip over to the Lions Den this week.

 

3.Rowan County (12-9):

After that hot start from late December to mid-January, the Vikings have since cooled off, winning just 1 out of their last 5 games. The Vikings defeated Fleming County to begin this week but then fell to Lewis County the very next night.

Rowan County travels to Owingsville to battle Bath County on Thursday.

 

4.West Carter (15-6):

West Carter has picked up steam lately, winning 7 of their last 8 games. The Comets are also etting it done against region opponents picking up wins over Rowan County, Morgan County, Elliott County.

The Comets will travel to Augusta on Friday.

 

5.Ashland (13-5):

The Tomcats are playing some good ball at the right now. Ashland has won 7 of their last 9 games as they head into the beginning of February, the last month of the regular season.

Ashland will look to continue their momentum Saturday when they travel to Fleming County.

 

 

6a. Lewis County (13-9):

 

The Lions have won 7 of their last 8 games to climb to an 13-9 record. Wins including Rowan County and Elliott County.

 

Lewis County travels to Russell on Friday.

 

 

6b. Elliott County (12-7):

 

Once a hot topic of the 16th region and thought to be one of the favorites to win the 16th region crown this season, the Lions have fell on hard times, going 1-6 in their last 7 games, splitting 3 game losing streaks. The Lions have ran their record to 12-7 but more importantly, 9-6 in region play and not to mention, 2-3 in district play.

 

 

 

6c. Greenup County (13-9):

 

Greenup County is struggling as of late, going 3-4 in their last 7 games with breaks of wins and losses inbetween each other.

 

Musketeers will look to get back on the winning side of ways and stay on the winning side of ways this week when they host Raceland on Thursday and travel to Sheldon Clark on Saturday.

 

 

9. Raceland (11-12):

 

The Rams are struggling badly as the season continues to dwindle down. The Rams have won just 5 games since December 19th, actually since December 29th, in fact, the Rams are 5-11 since that December 19th game. The Rams are however on a 2 game win streak.

 

Raceland will look to continue to win this week when they travel to Greenup County on Thursday and Bath County on Saturday.

 

 

10. Fairview (9-14):

 

Fairview is struggling as of late, actually they’ve been struggling since the new year. Fairview is just 2-10 in their last 12 games, in fact, they are 2-9 since January 1st.

 

Fairview won’t have it easy this week as they fell to Raceland to begin the week but they have a date with #2 Boyd County on Saturday in the Lions Den.

 

11. East Carter (7-12):

 

The Raiders do own a victory over #4 West Carter but that’s about it. Raiders are just 1-4 in their last 5 games.

 

12. Bath County (7-18):

 

Since January 1st, The Wildcats have 1 more win (4) then they did the whole month of December (3), bad news is, they’re still struggling.

 

 

13. Russell (5-19):

 

Russell continues to struggle and struggle badly. Russell has won just 1 game out of their last 10, this includes a 6 game losing streak (currently).

 

14. Fleming County (2-20):

 

This is the first, worst Fleming County team in history.

 

 

15. Menifee County (1-18):

 

Menifee County’s lone win came against #16 Rose Hill.

 

 

16. Rose Hill Christian (6-14):

 

None of the Royals 6 wins are against region opponents. The Royals are 0-7 vs. Region teams and 0-4 vs. District teams.
