article 10th Region Rankings & Weekly Review (1-24-16)

Every team was negatively impacted by nasty weather last week, so there's very little movement in the rankings and very little to report overall.

#1 - Montgomery County (13-7)

The Indians got a second shot at the state's only undefeated team, Mercer County, on the road Tuesday night. The Titans had beaten MoCo 71-56 on December 29th in the finals of the Gateway Holiday Classic. The outcome of this one was significantly more lopsided, though, as Mercer put away Montgomery 84-51. Jerryd Jones led the Indians in defeat with 23 points on 11-16 FG shooting.

#2 - Bishop Brossart (15-3)

Two days after reclaiming the 10th Region Class "A" Championship, Mike Code's squad entertained Harrison County and there was no letdown whatsoever. Brossart outgunned the Thorobreds early on, outscoring the visitors 17-5 after one quarter, en route to a 58-39 victory. The Stangs were led by Jackson Crawford's 21 points and 9 rebounds. Jacob Zai and Logan Schultz scored 13 and 10, respectively.

#3 - Paris (13-3)

Paris did not play last week, but the town does still have the world's tallest 3-story structure (The Shinner Building), as well as a brand-new McDonald's.

#4 - Campbell County (8-11)

Campbell County did not play last week, but at least Aric Russell and the Camels can go right down the road and get some high-quality doughnuts at Miss Shirley's Bakery. I recommend the Jelly Doughnut. Junior Parker says get the iced doughnut with Fruity Pebbles on the icing.

#5 - George Rogers Clark (11-8)

Scott Humphrey's club was the only 10th Region team to get two games in last week. On Tuesday the Cardinals trounced Grant County on the road 62-44. James Cornelius finished with 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Jyles Anderson paced the team in points with 20. Jordan Menchen pitched in with 16 points. Two nights later, GRC manhandled visiting Rowan County in the 1st half, leading the Vikings 35-18 at intermission. Clark had it on cruise control in the 2nd half, winning 66-50. Cornelius, Anderson, and Menchen each netted 17 points in the contest.

#6 - Mason County (12-7)

The Royals took to the road on Tuesday and came away with an 85-77 loss to 16th Region opponent Greenup County. Mason was led by Conner Sweeney's 26 points. Pig Williams scored 21 and Isiah Garrison added 14 for the Royals.

#7 - Augusta (12-5)

Brian Kirk's team snapped a two-game losing streak with a hard-fought 67-58 win at Scott on Tuesday. The Eagles led Augusta by a 33-20 score in the 2nd quarter, but the Panthers would close out on a 9-2 run to trail 35-29 at the half. Kirk's club then scored the 3rd quarter's first 6 points to tie the game at 35, and then Camryn Snapp's putback gave the Panthers a 44-43 lead after 3. From there, the visitors outscored the hosts 23-15 leading to the final score. Snapp's 24 points and 11 rebounds led Augusta. Connor Maddox chipped in with 16 points and Tanner Pugh had 14.

#8 - Scott (6-12)

The Eagles couldn't hold onto an early double-digit lead in Tuesday night's home 67-58 loss to Augusta. Jake Ohmer scored 20 points and Vinnie Duimlao helped with 14 for Brad Carr's squad, who has now lost 5 of its last 6 games.

#9 - Bracken County (8-6)

Bracken County did not play last week, but the gas in Brooksville is cheaper than most places and Hal's Barber Shop is back open from what I saw on Facebook.

#10 - Harrison County (9-9)

The Thorobreds' record went to .500 after Monday night's road 58-39 loss at Bishop Brossart. Jovon Williams was the only Bred to reach double figures with 10 points. Harrison County shot just 29.5% from the floor in the contest.

#11 - Pendleton County (8-12)

Four Wildcats reached double figures in Monday night's road game at Highlands, but the Wildcats lost 73-67. Dontaie Allen lead Keaton Belcher's team with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Grant Walsh scored 14, while Wade Browning and Hunter Wood both earned 11 points.

#12 - Bourbon County (3-16)

Bourbon County did not play last week, but the Colonels can probably beat Bracken County for cheapest gas prices and perhaps Campbell County for best doughnuts. And get this...you can accomplish both at the same place: Thornton's Gas Station off US 68. You can thank me later.

#13 - Nicholas County (7-12)

The Bluejackets avoided a 3-game losing streak on Tuesday night, defeating Robertson County in Mt. Olivet by a score of 75-55. It was the second victory for Nicholas over the Black Devils of the season.

#14 - St. Patrick (8-11)

St. Patrick did not play last week, but it's hard to complain when you are that close to Pasquale's. I recommend the Stromboli, the BBQ wings, or their calzones. But honestly, whatever you get will probably be delicious.

#15 - Calvary Christian (9-7)

Calvary Christian did not play last week, but the average ACT score earned by Calvary Christian students is 22.9, which is about 3 points higher than the state average, 2 points higher than the national average, and 17 points higher than the Can'tcoach average. I just put that in there to see if he reads these things.

#16 - Robertson County (3-13)

John Brown's club had hoped to make it two wins in a row on Tuesday night, but visiting Nicholas County proved too strong, defeating the Black Devils 75-55.

#17 - Silver Grove (5-13)

The Big Trains' winning streak was extended to 3 games after Tuesday night's nail-biting 40-38 triumph over visiting Latin. Randy Kuntz led the Trains with 11 points, while Christian Kersey added 7 points and 13 rebounds.

Bracken @ Scott this Friday should be a dandy

MoCo @ GRC Friday will be good game as well. This Rival game is always one you will want to watch. GRC plays another district game in Bourbon Co Tuesday.. Boys game is at 6:00 with the Girls playing Scott afterwards.
