article Class 2A Notebook- Brackets Set... Bragging Right Weekend Awaits

Weekend Rewind:

By and large an uneventful weekend for the Class' Top 10 teams.

 

The Top 7 Teams all failed to see an opponent that could hang within 5 TD's.

 

The most important game was #8 Lloyd Memorial surviving a tough Covington Holy Cross 42-36 to clinch the 2 seed and a home playoff game. CHC is now ticketed to travel to Owen County in Round 1 and if they win, 2A Perennial Powerhouse NewCath awaits.

 

Owen County earned their 2-seed in their own right by outlasting Gallatin County 8-6 in a Defensive stalemate. The win eliminates a potential 3-way tie and forces Gallatin to a 4 Seed.

 

Danville and LCA battled for the District 7 title, but this game was over before it really got started as the Ads clipped the Eagles 41-7. Danville enters as the hottest team in the East and will be considered the Favorite by most people to advance to Bowling Green.

 

 

Huge Non-District Slate Ahead:

Though Week 9 offered few games that grabbed Statewide attention, the heavy non-district scheduled Week 10 is loaded with huge games to serve as litmus tests entering into post-season play. We will see 6 of the Top 10 teams take on ranked opponents in other classes.

 

Out West #1 Mayfield travels to #5 3A Caldwell County, #2 CAL takes on #9 4A Franklin County, #6 Murray travels to 3A # 7 Paducah Tilghman, #10 Monroe County travels to #10 4A Wayne County. The remaining top contenders out West are not excluded as well.. Owenboro Catholic and Butler County step up to 6A competition and Glasgow takes on a Top 10 3A Elizabethtown.

 

On the Eastern side things aren't much easier, LCA takes on 3A Distict 7 Champ Powell County and both Lloyd Memorial and LCA step up to larger classification competition. The biggest storyline of the weekened though will be a pair of 2A teams challenging the best of 1A for small class supremacy. In NKY, #7 NewCath renews their rivalry with #1 1A Beechwood. Meanwhile in the Big Sandy area of EKY #9 Shelby Valley challenges the red hot #2 1A Paintsville Tigers.

Before the KHSAA makes it official, take a glance at how the brackets will play out. Remember this is an ODD year so the ODD Region Hosts the Semi-Finals. For the Regional Finals seeding still trumps all, but if the seeds are the same it will be the Odd District representative which hosts:

I hope your right, but it will be a VERY TUFF road, just to get there!

Getting to the state game on the west side means most teams would have to go through 1-2-3. Almost an impossible task unless your Mayfield and have semi at home....I don't believe it would matter if they had to travel to space!!!!
