10. Bell County (3A, 7-2)- Bobcats close out District play by crushing Jackson County... Harlan County should be a nice sharpening tool entering the playoffs

9. Pikeville (1A, 7-2)- Panthers finish off their District Title and has WKU dreams. The first ever matchup against 3A Pike Central should be a quality scrimmage.

8. Corbin (3A, 6-3)- Redhounds are peaking and now take on Regional rival Knox Central. Hounds look to be the favorite to reach the Semi's in 3A Region 4.

7. Southwestern (5A, 7-2)- Southwestern got ambushed and pushed around by their Big Brother. The road doesn't get much easier in the season finale against 3A powerhouse LexCath.

6. North Laurel (5A, 9-0)- 5A's only undefeated team looks to close strong with potentially their toughest test of the season in Montgomery County.

5. Ashland (4A, 8-1)- Tough loss in a Defensive standoff against rival Johnson Central. 6A Tates Creek comes calling as Ashland tries to reinvent their Offense to be ready for the re-match we all know will be coming.

4. Paintsville (1A, 9-0)- Most were not surprised in Paintsville taking the District Title..but to dismantle Raceland...well that stands out. The only thing in the way of perfection is a solid Shelby Valley

3. Belfry (3A, 8-1)- Pirates finish off yet another District Title but now step their game up in a hurry with the beasts from Paint Creek awaiting.

2. Johnson Central (4A, 8-0)- Eagles got everything they wanted and more from Ashland, but found a way to prevail. The Eagles have one more stiff round of competition before their push to Feix Field begins.

1. Pulaski County (5A, 8-1)- Only one word can describe what Pulaski did to rival Southwestern, "WOW". Pulaski made a statement that they may very well be the team to beat in 5A and do not expect a back pedaling Bourbon County to contest that.

First 3 Out:

Wayne County (4A, 7-2)- After a mid-season loss to Bell County the Cards ripped off 5 straight wins and can wrap it up with a ranked 2A Monroe County.

Shelby Valley (2A, 8-1)- Speaking of win streaks... the Cats are at 8 straight and have tons of momentum ending the season. A win against Paintsville suddenly can put them in the 2A Contender discussion.

Lawrence County (3A, 6-3)- The "What Could Have Been" Team. The Bulldogs lost twice in games they led late in the 4th Quarter. Lawrence's main focus is ripping through 3A District 5 to get them back to Belfry for revenge for one of those close losses.

3 Teams Worth Mentioning:

Powell County (3A, 6-3)- How bout them Pirates? Powell may not have started the season on the radar of most fans but they enter the Post Season as the 3A District 7 Champs and will host a pair of playoff games most likely.

West Carter (3A, 7-2)- It has been a historic run for the Comets as they finish in a 3-way tie for the District Title. A home playoff game is almost assured and a win over Magoffin County Friday will give the Comets perhaps their best regular season in school history.

Montgomery County (5A, 6-3)- The Indians had low expectations entering the year but scraped and clawed to a 6 win season and a 7th win may be within reach against North Laurel.

Player of the Week:

RB Kent Phelps, Paintsville

It is easy to be looked over when Kash Daniel is on your team, but Kent Phelps has been the heartbeat to Paintsville's amazing season and he capped it in style.

Phelps had 190 total yards (131 rushing, 59 receiving) and posted 4 TD's against Raceland.

Game of the Week:

#2 Johnson Central @ #3 Belfry

These two regional rivals close the EKY slate out in style. The Eagles have had Belfry's number in recent years, but Pirate fans are quick to point out the number of injured starters in last season's Halloween blowout. Two great run Defenses square off, but can Belfry hold on to the football?

According to the paper Pulaski QB Riley Hall suffered an injury to his non throwing shoulder and could miss a few weeks...something to keep an eye on to see how quickly he can make it back and how healthy he is if/when he makes it back.

There's still a long road ahead, but I'm predicting the top 4 will all be in BG playing for titles in December.
