Lawnboy13
In the clash of the 36th District titans it was another epic 1-run battle, as NewCath holds on for a 3-2 victory at the "Birdcage" tonight. A packed house was on hand, including a virtual "Who's Who" of BGP'ers to watch a very exciting game. NewCath 1st - It was the Haley Coffey Show, as she makes her 2015 debut and has 2 assist and a putout. Highlands 1st - NewCath pitcher Haley Meyers gets the 1st two on K's and Shelby Graybill hits a "rocket" off a leaping Casey Kohls glove and into rightcenter, however Graybill is gunned downed by Kristen Schreiber trying to steal 2nd. NewCath 2nd - Bailey Spencer records 3 K's. Highlands 2nd - After 1 out, Kara Fornash reaches on an error, Brennah Dutcher singles, Rachel Gabbard draws a walk, and Fornash scores on a 4-3 groundout. The inning ends with a K. NewCath 3rd - BB and 3 straight outs. Highlands 3rd - 1,2,3. NewCath 4th - With one out, Schreiber singles to left. After a FO-8, Screiber steals 2nd and the throw is wide allowing her to advance to 3rd. Haley Meyers helps her on cause as she laces one thru the 3-4 hole scoring Schreiber. Morgan Martini then drops a flare right on the rightfield line. The right fielder in a moment of indecision holds the ball, and with Meyers running on contact scores. Martini advances to 2nd on the play. Alex Burkart comes in to run for Martini, and on Kennedy Bin's single to right scores as the throw home gets eludes Graybill. The inning ends with Bin on 3rd and Spencer snags a shot off the bat of Lexi Breen. Highlands 4th - With 2-out, Dutcher "mashes" a double to the right field fence, Gabbard walks for the 2nd time (the only walks allowed by Meyers), and both advance on the only WP off the game. However the inning ends with a popout. NewCath 5th - 1,2,3. Highlands 5th - 1,2,3. NewCath 6th - Schreiber singles, but is caught stealing, 2,3. Highlands 6th - 1,2,3. NewCath 7th - 1,2, E4, 3. Highlands 7th - Dutcher leads off with her 3rd hit of the game. She is erased on a force, Spencer singles, K, Whitney Quillen singles in Gabbard, and the game ends on a popout to Kohls at 2nd. vansmetal
The only injury on the night, 5 stitches to Kristen Schreiber's hand. Happened when Haley Coffey stepped on her hand during steal attempt. Looks like she still had a good game. Was she able to continue to play?
AllenR
Looks like she still had a good game. Was she able to continue to play? Yes. She was back in. There was discussion about the amount of time it was taking to get her taped up. So Loren Zimmerman suited up at catcher and Kristen went to 3rd for an inning. She was back behind the plate the next inning and even came over to ask if I got a good picture of it! The 3 frames before this better show the impact and tag, but were out of focus. vansmetal
Tough kid...just tell her that next time (hopefully there never is) that yall keep some dental floss and a needle on stand by;) Toughness like that will pump a team up.
keepinitreal
Sounds like a great game as usual. Glad to hear that Haley is back.
RCC9
What a tough kid! Taped it up and went back it at catcher. I was concerned for both as soon as they hit. Not that any injury is good, but it could have been a lot worse for both of them as hard as they both play and the way the collision happened. Very unfortunate for Ms Schreiber and I really hope it has minimal impact on the rest of her senior season.

AllenR
Who reads the enquirer anymore? I come here. Thanks for the summary. I didn't know they still published a "paper". Was at parents and they pulled out what appeared to be a crappy magazine.
