Question for the experts.

I know someone who taught in one district, their kids played sports in the district in which they lived. She took a position in a totally different district, her kids switched schools and wanted to play in that new district. She was told they would have to sit out according to KHSAA rules. My question is, can an athlete switch districts and still play sports if there is no change of address but the athlete's mother teaches in that district? What are your thoughts?
