rjs4470
Around 40 wrestlers from Kentucky made the trip to Virginia Beach this past weekend to compete at the NHSCA Nationals. This is one of the bigger offseason events, with huge brackets (some with over 100 wrestlers) with wrestlers from all over the country. Competition is broken up by grade level. Kentucky had two champions-- Austin Meyers from Campbell County, 220 weight class in the Senior Division. Just adding to his legacy as probably the best high school KY wrestler ever. Was also MOW for the Event. His first 3 matches lasted a total of a little over a minute. Tyler Frankrone from Trinity, 182 lbs in the Junior Division. Another total beast, will probably win his 3rd State title next year. There were a few others who achieved All American Status-- Casey Cornett from SK, was the runner up at 182 in the Sophomore division. Lost in the very last seconds of Ultimate OT. Max Andreoni from Woodford County, finished 5th at 152 in the Sophmore division. Lost his first match and won 7 or 8 matches on Saturday...unbelievable at that level of competition Ryan Moore from Walton Verona, finished 7th at 113 in the freshman division. Many others won several matches and competed very well. If you're not paying attention to wrestling, you are really missing out. There are some great wrestlers in KY now, and the more and more kids are giving the sport a chance, and it's only going to get better. There are a ton of kids sitting on the ends of basketball benches that could have success in wrestling. Edited March 30, 2015 by rjs4470
mcpapa
Appreciate the info. As "the other winter sport", wrestling doesn't get much pub around here.
