Knott County Central wins WYMT Mountain Classic, continues to roll through opponents

 

Knott County Central made it known that they intend on winning the 14th region tournament for the 4th straight year when they won the WYMT Mountain Classic last week, picking up wins over Harlan County, Clay County and Perry County Central. The Patriots outscored their opponents 188-141. Once the Patriots got done with the WYMT classic, they would turn their attention two more regional opponents in Letcher County Central and Powell County in which Knott County Central would demolish both teams defeating Letcher County Central 71-37 and Powell County 80-49.

Cordia defeats West Jessamine, improves to 8-1)

 

The Cordia Lions replaced the Estill County Engineers in the Hall of Fame Classic at Pulaski Southwestern High School where they would face off against West Jessamine. The Colts would come into the contest at 14-4, what many thought would be a good game was exactly that until late when Cordia would pull away to go on to win 66-56.

 

Cordia isn't scheduled to return to action until February 6th when they travel to Clay County

 

 

 

Perry County Central defeats highly talented Shelby Valley

The Commodores made the trip up to Shelby Valley on Saturday night for a dance with a very high talented Shelby Valley squad who came into the contest at 12-5. The Wildcats would put up a fight before the Commodores would storm away on their way to a 95-70 victory over Shelby Valley.

 

Upcoming Games: 1/20 Clay County, 1/22 Letcher County Central, 1/23 @ Leslie County

 

 

Buckhorn wins 14th Region All "A" Classic

 

Buckhorn, like they do every year, would participate in the annual 14th Region All "A" classic basketball tournament. Buckhorn would open up with Jenkins and the Wildcats would run past the Cavaliers 84-45 on their way to meet district foe, Leslie County, a team they beat by 1 earlier in the season in overtime, this time around would be a different story as Buckhorn would win 66-53 as they would advance to face the Hazard Bulldogs. Despite blowing out Hazard earlier in the year, this would be the closest game for Buckhorn but the Wildcats would prevail 65-57 on their way to the championship game, where they would face Jackson City this would not go the Tigers way as Buckhorn would throttle Jackson City 63-30.

 

Upcoming Games: 1/26 @ Leslie County

 

 

Estill County defeats Russell, extends win streak to 5 games

 

The Engineers took their team to Riverside Christian on Tuesday night for a game against the Rams, this would be a game where the younger Engineers would get more playing time. Estill County would go on to defeat Riverside Christian 60-12. Estill County would then travel to Flatwoods to take on the Russell Red Devils, a game they just picked up and against a team they haven't played. Game would be close the entire 1st half but it would be the 3rd quarter where Estill County would pull away from the Red Devils as they would outscore Russell 17-5 in that 3rd quarter on their way to a 48-33 victory to extend their win streak to 5 games.

 

Upcoming Games: 1/23 Powell County, 1/24 Letcher County Central

 

 

Letcher County Central falls to Knott County Central but gets revenge on June Buchanan

 

Letcher County Central would make the trip over to Knott County Central looking to upset the #1 ranked team Knott County Central Patriots but it would not go so well as Knott County Central would throttle the Cougars 71-37. Letcher County Central would then welcome in district foe, June Buchanan, who defeated Letcher County Central 35-34 earlier in the season and just like that game, this game would be a thriller with Letcher County Central winning 72-69 in double overtime.

Cordia is the 2nd best team in this region, hands down.

 

Cordia beat Hazard by 1.....Perry Central and Knott Central both defeated Hazard by 20....I think Perry is the second best team in region although without Cordia's participation in post season I think they would have gave Knott a run for their money in the district tournament
