Sprint, NASCAR partnership to end after 2016 season

Sprint announced on Tuesday that it will not extend its sponsorship of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series beyond 2016. The significant changes within Sprint and the highly competitive business environment it is in led to a decision not to extend its Cup Series entitlement position following the 2016 season.

Let's see.. who's got $75 million a year to spend on a shrinking "sport" who's best days are behind it? Oh yea, no one.

In the grand scheme of things $75 mill a year in advertising isn't much.

To name a few

Samsung spent 14 billion in advertising this year.

Coca Cola 3 billion.

Apple 2.6 billion.

MicroSoft 2.5 billion.

Pepsi 1.6 billion

Anheuser spent 1.36 billion.

McDonalds 1 billion

I think there is some type of study saying Nascar fans are the most loyal brand buyers.

It's not how much, it's bang for your buck - and NASCAR doesn't have it.

If that were true, Wal-Mart would have sponsored the whole thing years ago.

I've always been shocked that WM wasn't more involved in NASCAR.

Back in the day it was looked at as an extravagance and WM always stayed away from it as far as sponsoring.

Now it would be a drop in a very huge bucket.

I kind of think stock car racing has run its course, so to speak.

It peaked and has plateaued, but it is far from done as some folks seem to imply.

The truck series and the junior series both just signed new 7 and 10 year sponsorships. NASCAR's top series will have a new sponsor.

Last I saw a little over 30% of the Fortune 500 companies do some type of NASCAR sponsorship.
