Breathitt County

How will the Bobcats do without longtime head coach, Mike Holcomb? Kyle Moore has been named the new head football coach at Breathitt County. Kyle was Breathitt County’s QB from 94-98, during that span Kyle lead Breathitt to a 62-7 record with 2 straight state championships and 2 straight 15-0 seasons. Kyle replaces longtime coach Mike Holcomb who left Breathitt for Letcher County Central back over the summer.

The Bobcats lost a total of 15 players from last year’s team due to graduation. Breathitt does return star WR Wes Noble who caught 22 passes for 427 yards and 4 touchdowns last season. Breathitt also returns junior-to-be running back Jordan Turner who rushed for 211 yards on 28 attempts, Johnathan Gilbert who rushed for 277 yards on 32 attempts and 3 touchdowns. Other notable returning players; Michael Hilderbrand, Blake Haddix, Adam White, James Collins. Breathitt County also received a transfer from Prestonsburg in QB Cory Grigsby. Grigsby who was at Prestonsburg last year passed for 13 yards on 3 completions on 8 attempts, Grigsby also rushed for 14 yards on 6 attempts and 0 touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Breathitt gave up a total of 1,213 rushing yards and 1,205 passing yards last season and 2013 doesn’t look like it will get any easier for the Bobcats as they lost 9 starters while only returning 2 starters. Those two starters are John Collins and Wes Noble.

On the schedule front, Breathitt County opens with 2 straight home games. The Bobcats open up the season on August 30 as they host district opponent Jackson county. Breathitt then welcomes in Bourbon County on September 6. Breathitt then goes to Lawrence County to take on the Bulldogs. Breathitt returns home for 2 more games, as they host Perry County Central on September 20 and Hazard on September 27. Breathitt then goes to district opponent, Magoffin County, after that, Breathitt travels to Clay County to take on the Tigers, Breathitt will host district opponent Morgan County on senior night for the Bobcats on October 18. Breathitt will then travel for the final two regular season games of 2013, traveling to Hindman to take on district opponent Knott County Central on October 25 and to cap the 2013 regular season, Breathitt County travels to Whitesburg to take on their former coach and his new team, Letcher County Central Cougars.

Breathitt fans seem to be exited but nervous. Excited because it’s time for some Bobcat football but nervous because they will have a new head coach leading the way for the Bobcats but it’s a guy that knows how to run the Bobcat program. Breathitt may not have the season they hope for but one thing for sure, it’s gonna be interesting to see how Kyle Moore does as the new Breathitt County Head Coach.
