PERRY COUNTY CENTRAL COMMODORES

The Commodores finished 24-7 (12-0 region) (3-0 district) in the regular season under new head coach Kevin Spurlock. Perry County Central had to sit and watch the regional tournament last year due to a first round district loss to the Buckhorn Wildcats. Perry County Central is looking to re-group and leave Whitesburg as the 14th Region Champions.

POWELL COUNTY PIRATES

The Pirates had a disappointing year after coming off a 20-13 season, district champions and a regional semi-final appearance the Pirates finished the regular season at 9-19 (5-15 region) (1-7 district) and district runner up in the 56th district. The Pirates will be trying to do a huge task and that's knock off the Perry County Central Commodores, a team that demolished Powell County earlier in the season on Powell's home court 79-49.

BREATHITT COUNTY BOBCATS

The Bobcats will be without Richard Trent and Michael Fugate, both seniors due to a suspension by State for missing school days. The Bobcats and Cordia Lions never met in the regular season so this will be a first. The Bobcats do have some very good guards that know how to put it in the basket. The Bobcats finish the regular season at 17-12 (11-5 region) (4-0 district). The Bobcats are looking to get past Coach Rodrick Rhodes and his Cordia Lions.

CORDIA LIONS

The Lions last regional tournament appearance came in 2008 (07/08 season). The Lions finish the regular season at 18-9 (14-7 region) (6-4 district), 53rd District runner-up. The Lions will look to make it past the Breathitt Bobcats and the first round of the regional tournament. To do so, their guards are gonna have to step up.

ESTILL COUNTY ENGINEERS

Engineers are looking to seek revenge on the Wolfe County Wolves from an earlier defeat in the Wolves Den. Estill County finishes the regular season at 14-16 (7-6 region) (6-2 district). Engineers are 56th district champions. Engineers first district championship under Coach Jon Bentley (3rd season as HC) and first since 2008. Brandon Morris is gonna have to play better this time around then he did in the first game, only scoring 9 points. Engineers' Trevor Jenkins MIGHT be making his return from a ankle injury suffered earlier in the season in a game against Madison Southern.

WOLFE COUNTY WOLVES

The Wolves defeated the Estill County Engineers earlier in the season in the Wolves Den. Wolves finish the regular season at 16-13 (12-10 region) (4-2 district) and they are 55th district runner-up. Wolfe County is looking to knock off Estill County and move on to the second round.

KNOTT COUNTY CENTRAL PATRIOTS

One of the favorites to win the 14th region, Knott County Central Patriots finish the regular season at 26-5, (17-2 region) (11-0 district), 53rd district champs. The Patriots really shouldn't have a problem making it to the regional finals.

LESLIE COUNTY EAGLES

Eagles first trip to the regional tournament since 2005/6. The Eagles finish the regular season at 11-18 (6-8 region) (2-2 district) under new head coach Daniel Day. Eagles have a tough task in the first round as they try to take down the Knott Central Patriots.

The only 2 exciting games in the first round will be Cordia/Breathitt and Estill/Wolfe, other two first round games should be blowouts. This is what every team, every player, every coach dreams of, making it to the regional tournament to have a shot at going to the state tournament at Rupp Arena.

Everything looks good All State, except Perry Central is the top ranked team in the region. They defeated Knott Central twice during the season and are undefeated in region play. They HAVE to be # 1. Of course, Knott Central can defeat them if everything falls together, but what makes PCC so good is the size of Cornett and Johnson. If their guards are having a good game too, then look out. KCC has to rely on Justice quite a bit, and if he's on with his stroke then they can be very dangerous. But he can't have a bad game for them to have a chance.

Cordia is the only other threat in the tournament and they have talent. But I'm not sold on their coach when it comes to making decisions and X's and O's in crucial times. From all that I have read he made a bunch of tactical blunders in the district championship loss to Knott Central. And I saw their All A game with Knott Central and imo he made some wrong coaching moves during the second half of that game too. Cordia has the pieces but getting them to fit together just right and play under control is the key.
