Very serious weather situation!

The entire state is in for a major outbreak of severe weather today. Everyone should have their disaster plan ready now. Please don't wait until the severe weather is approaching your location. If you wait until then you may only have seconds to react. Also, keep an eye on the cities and counties to your southwest. The prevailing winds in Kentucky blow from the southwest to the northeast. Most tornadoes will follow this track.

All quiet on this end of the state thus far...

There are some storms forming this morning and might see some hail. Dew points are only in the 40's.

The greatest threat will be this afternoon into the evening. Some of the the storms that form will go quickly severe. Significant tornadoes are possible with these storms.

The prevailing winds with these fronts being southwest to northeast the greatest threat area will likely be east of I-65 and south of the Bluegrass Parkway.

President Obama pledged assistance if needed in phone call to Governor this afternoon

FRANKFORT, KY.– After a brutal day of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in Kentucky on Wednesday, it appears Kentuckians may be in line for another punishing round of storms on Friday. Governor Steve Beshear today warned all Kentuckians to prepare for those storms, and promised the state’s emergency management system would closely monitor the severe weather as well as remain in close contact with local officials.

On Thursday afternoon, President Barack Obama called Gov. Beshear for an update on damages and injuries from Wednesday’s storms, and relayed that the Federal Emergency Management Agency is prepared to assist states as needed.

Heavy rain and lightning here in Richmond on my way to work. Had a very brief period of very small hail.
