By Randy Parker - Pendleton's solid weekend Of the five 10th Region teams to play a pair of games Friday and Saturday, Keaton Belcher's Pendleton County Wildcats may have been the most pleasant surprise. Despite losing their #2 scorer (12.2 ppg) and #2 rebounder (3.5 rpg) in 8th grader Dontaie Allen, who is likely out for the season, the Cats not only won 2 games, but won them in convincing fashion. On Friday, Pendleton controlled visiting Bracken County from start to finish in a 65-46 win--avenging a 1-point loss in Brooksville from two weeks prior. Several teams began district play while other teams were still playing in holiday tournaments and the beginning of the year classics. Here’s a recap from the action across the 14th region. Knott County Central wins 4 out of 5 games after being on the road since Christmas day. Head Coach Denny Barnes and the NewCath Thoroughbreds look to improve upon last season’s 18-11 record, and regain the District Title. By 15th Region - Overview: The 15th Region All A Classic is much like a super-regional in the 15th Region as 11 of the 16 teams will compete in the tournament. By Region 1 Basketball - Top Teams: 1. Calloway County, 11-1, The Lakers won the Christmas tournament they were in Fort Walton Beach. They return to regional action this Saturday @ home vs. McCracken County. They beat them in December 68-44. 2. Murray, 9-4, Murray took some losses during the holiday tournaments but they were to solid teams. They lost to Bowling Green, Henderson County, and Caverna. Overall they went 3-3. What we have seen in the past two weeks is that the 13th Region might be a bit stronger overall than many had imagined. The Royals beat pesky Augusta 74-63 in the semi-finals, led by a career-high 20 points from senior guard Ryan Johnson. Then 24 hours later, Mason upended Madison Central in the championship game, with Dorian Henry's 27 points & 9 rebounds leading the way.
